Is there any benefit to running the secondary without the windage plates?

cooler clutches for low speed heavy loads like offtrail/deep powder mountain riding.
down side, not a smooth area anylonger robbing top speed from wind friction. ski

Is there a noticable gain from lighter plates, as compared to the stock ones?

There will be gain at a certain degree, but you will not notice it. It just lightens up the drive system and every little bit helps. It would equal to drilling your rotor.

so why do the 98 srx 700 not come with them from the factory and the 98 msrx does??? isnt this thinking backwards.....you take them off for deep power snow and off trail and keep them on for trail speed driving??? isnt a mountain sled meant to go off the trail or am i wrong on this one??

I got a set of carbon fiber plates from concept carbon..... Mine were starting to rust so i decided to replace them. The new ones look 100 times better then the old ones and they are noticeably lighter when you hold them... not sure of gains or anything but i think its worth it just for the looks Imo.... nothin worse then rust lol
