2001 SRX: I had a problem with the engine dieing out that went away the next day and was looking for some insight on how the throttle safety system works.
On Monday, if I let off the gas completely the engine would go dead but, not die. I would coast to a stop and wait for the engine to idle down. Once it got below about 2500 RPM's I could take off again. As long as I didn't let off completely it ran fine. The following day, I moved what I assume is a sensor (on the left carb by the clutches) all the way up. We rode about 100 miles and it ran perfect.
I would really appreciate any input on this.

Thanks,

Was this just after the carbs where cleaned...how's your throttle free play...

theblues: The carbs were cleaned last October. It has ran about 150 miles before the issue showed up. The free play is the same as it's been since I baught it and the same as my son's 2001 600. After adjusting the carb switch all the way CCW is ran fine for 100 miles.

TJ500: Thanks for the link of your post. I completely understand the operation now and can deal with the adjustments. The guy at the Hurley Yamaha dealership told me the free play needed reduced which I also did. Sounds like this is the wrong way.

The engine dieing caused me a real problem on Monday: I came up on a wet area on the trail where there were two water patches. Normally "Wet Area" translates into there's a big bump coming up so I let off the gas. The engine lost power, I went across the first patch fine and coasted to a stop in the second one. The skis made to the other side but, the back end of the sled was in above the tail light and it was stuck. While trying to get it out, it sucked a rock ontop of the track which lodged against the under side of the tunnel. So, it wasn't going anywhere after that. We had to trailer it back to town and drop the rear of the suspension out to get the rock out. Other than a big scratch on the under side of the tunnel it didn't hurt anything. I rode it 100 miles the next day with no issues with anything.

Thanks for the help guys!

most i see are unpluged and looped together because they always seem to not work properly
