I was going over my sled and found that I forgot to grease the bushings at the ski pivots and luckily I had the skis off to replace the carbides and change a few rusty nuts and bolts. So I was looking at the pivot and thought "where would a good place for a grease fitting be?"Has anyone done this and where did you put the fitting? It is such a pain in the a$$ to have to take this apart and grease that there must be a better way.
yes, i have, drill and tap the head of your bolt, drill a tiny hole in past the first bushing, then drill a hole through the center of the bolt from the side to the end of the other bolt. then drill a hole through the collar so the grease can excape that lines up with the other hole. mark the collar and bolt with a file so you can tell where the holes are so you can line them up. when you tighten it you have to hole the bolt and tighten the nut so it doesnt move.
you can buy the bushings and collars for like 10bucks to rebuild them when your ready to add the grease fittings.
one drawback is the dirt that collects inside your ski. still worth it.

Thats what I initially thought about doing but I figured it would put the grease fitting out where it could get broken off easily.Plus you end up drilling a hole in the bolt that holds the ski on,a small one but a hole none the less;would that not tend to weaken the bolt?Ever had one break? The bolt that is.
ive had this setup on many sleds, change skis alot and never bothered. if you switch skis alot you might want different bolts. standard viper, viper s, c+a, all take different length bolts.

I was thinking about doing that, but was also concerned with the integrity of the bolt, but if you have done this with no problems, than that answers that question. Could you drill down from the top and use a longer Zerk fitting at an angle?
The coffee can shims worked great. Have you had any problems with them working out from under the bushings? I ordered new bushings for the W arm from pioneer performance today.

Yes, I did it this way with 1.25" long grease nipples. Drilling on the angle was the tough part. Start with a straight hole and then angle the hole through the pivot/knuckle. Once I had an oval hole, I was able to drill straight into the round tube. Just make sure that the grease fitting doesn't stick through to far.
