newbie ?'s SRX power valves

I just picked up 2 1998 700 SRX's... I rode a 1997 700 sx for 5 years, can anybody give me a little insight on the power valves on these things? What exactly do they do? And how can you tell if there working, I read a few posts on the valves and it sounds like they have a tendancy to go bad? I put 30 miles on them last weekend when we bought them, my SX seemed alot quicker out of the hole, but the SRX seems to pull alot more through the RPM range. Any other insight would be great!! THANKS!
 

No they dont go bad, they should be looked at once or twice a year though, cleaned and adjusted, there are many posts on this site with how to adjust them and clean them. They definately do add more then a non-powervalved sled for sure, just search for powervalves on here and you should get all the information that you need on them
