how fast is the 77 srx

i was looking at buying or should i say trying to buy a 1977 srx 440. i know that there supposedly scarce but if i look long enough i might get lucky, if not i would settle for a different year. i want 2 know the horsepower rating on it. i have been hearing a lot of different numbers like, 1977=98,96,82. i cannot seem to find an accurate number. also i want to know how fast they actually are. i know they are wicked fast but once again i never hear any accurate numbers. how many new sleds have you raced and beaten with it. any info is appreciated.

thats what i was guessing it had for horespower. then they detuned it in 1978 because more people were using it for trail use. how did they detune it? thats the thing im not understanding. all the motor shots that i have seen look exactly the same, so it must be something internal.
 
smaller carbs for 1, 78=36mm 77=40mm. different porting,lower comp heads on 78 different pipes 78 turns 9200rpm ,77 turns 9800rpm to 10,200rpm 77 is a fast fast animal!

its really fast, yes but how much faster was it then the other year. i.e 78,79,80. also u guys seem to know your stuff about the sled but no one seems to have a number for top speed. also what was the biggest sled that you have raced with a 440 srx and beaten. i understand that a lot of people on here just have them to take to shows and wax them, nothing wrong with that if i had one it would prolly weigh 500 pounds with all the wax i would use, but there has to be some people that just take them to a lake and let er rip. i really want more numbers, but anyother information is great. like how much did the 76 srx win the racing championship.{cant think of the name right now}. was it a blowout or did it come down to the last stretch where the srx crushed it.
 
WELL, LET ME PUT IT THIS WAY. A GUY IN MAINE JUST RAN 100 mph IN 1000 F.T. ON RADER. THIS IS POSTED ON vintagesleds.com ! THE 77 SRX COULD STILL BE COMPETIVE TODAY WITH NO PROBLEM. I STOPED RUNNING MINE WHEN THE VMAX 800 CAME OUT. THAT WAS IN 1995. I BEAT WILDCATS, INDY 650, VMAX 4 750, FORMULA PLUS , VMAX 540 , INDY 600 etc!!. THE 78-79-80 SRX WERE FAST. THE 77 SRX WAS BRUTAL. NO COMPARSION. DUDE, I RACED EVER YEAR SRX THERE WAS. 77 WAS FASTEST HANDS DOWN. 3:16 (tony)
 
I know where there is a 78 SRX without a motor, what would the chances be of finding a 77 motor somewhere?
 
78 and up weigh 50lbs more than the 77's ,had steel bulkhead instead of aluminum that the 77 had, what are your plans just to play or what?
 
that was one of my 77's that ran 100 on a chewed up track . alot of snow dust and carbs jetted rich. just put the engine in the night before . all setup right it will run 105 to 110 mph in 1000' of good clean ice. don't have any problems with bigger sleds in a drag race.

I HAD A 77 SRX BACK IN THE LATE EIGHTES EARLY NINETYS, THROTTLED ALOT OF WILDCATS, PLUS X SKIDOO, INDY,s !! RAN IT IN AA/S AND TOP STOCK !! THEY WERE JUST AWSOME. YOU DON,T HAVE TOO TELL ME YOU DON,T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH NEW SLEDS. ALTHOUGH I WOULD LIKE TOO RACE YA WITH MY 2000 SRX ON ICE. OLD AGAINST NEW lol!!!. 3:16 (tony)

If what your saying is correct then the 440 srx is faster than the 2006 mach Z in the quarter mile. even i find that hard to believe. how is it possible for a 440 cc sled even come close to keeping up with a 1000 cc sled. the srx is giving up 65 horse and 19 years of technology. the thing that it has is about 300 pounds lighter than the mach Z but even then i doubt that it will win.
 
you can have all the hp in the world but if you cant get hooked your done! game over!srx's are bad to the bone and quick as lightning! hard to beat

Tony..........My 77 grass srx weights 300lbs soak and wet. The new Delaughter pipes are pumping a true 122 hp. If I can keep it running long enought, Id like to run it up north on the radar. Think will have some ice??? Dean-o
 
I seen a couple different srx 440 run 100-105 mph in 1000ft and that all these guys do with the sled is speed run.but skidoo 440 can run in the low 100 speed running also in 1000ft in stock form set up strictly for speed running.For what the srx 440 are and considering 30 year old technology they haul a**
