Took my first ride of the season this weekend and was able to open it up on a stretch of groomed hardpack. I hit 103, but my tach was registering 9100 RPM. This seemed pretty high to me. What should my top end RPMs be on a packed trail? I'm also wondering about my oil consumption. At 150 miles I had used just under a quart. The sled is an 02 Viper with M-10 and 7700 miles but otherwise stock.

Mine screams at 8700-8800 rpm at wot. You could perform some clutching changes to bring rpm's down. If your scared that your going blow or harm the engine, you won't.

How hot were the clutches and were they just cleaned and did you have a new or old belt...

Viper WOT rpms

I just got back from the first trip of the year and I noticed my 03 Viper was hitting 9000 rpm at wot condition (106 mph), clutches were warm, both had just been cleaned and belt was new last year (stock Yamaha belt) has about 600 miles on it. Is this o.k. or should I make an adjustment somewhere??? -Ed

To be honest, I'm not sure how hot the clutches were. I did take ScotchBrite to them last year and this was the first ride since. I think that it is an older belt and it did seem like I might have a little slippage.
