Well all I can say is that Im pretty sure my old set up pulled a lot hard than this one. Im just wondering what you more experienced clutch guy can tell me to try. Its not that its terrible I just know its not quite right. First at take off or really slow speeds moving in and out of whippits trying to move around it really wants to smoke the belt. Also I thought it was engaging at 3800 but I really have to say it engages at 3600 which seems much too low. I never had a chance to go wide open for long but as far as I can tell my rpms never got over 8000. I did feel my clutches and the primary was almost cool after 20 miles or so. The secondary was warmer but still not hot. Right now my set up is as follows. www primary, 8dn-20's with 4.5 in each hole, and I have the 51/43 which Bruce over at cbperformance said he would cut it a bit for me but then told me someone had cut the hell out of it already so he said he'd leave it alone. I have the secondary wrap at 80 degrees. what do you guys thinks. Also, lastly I rebuilt the primary with new rollers, both sheeves one with the overdrive sheeve from cbperformance. I know I shouldnt be smelling the belt just about everytime I take off. Im running the red secondary spring by the way. Seems like some guys are running the same set up as me but with the green secondary. Let me know what you guys recommend. And lastly the 02 mxz 800 still smokes me through the midrange but I know I should be getting more.

the only way to raise your engagment would either change the spring and/or shims. You really need to get out and hold on it to see what rpms are start/finish. I'd say you'd probably want a green secondary, thats why your getting beat mid-range, its just not upshifting fast enough. Thats my guess...turk will prob get it right on.

your secondary is too tight @ 80... you need a green secondary set at 60 or 70

your secondary is trying to back shift and not upshift with that tension smoking the belt.

Hard to say what angle helix you have after it being all cut to hell but try a stock RX-1 helix. Its a 51/43 cut from the factory..

BTW check your clutch alignment

That helix is probably a lot steeper then 51/43. If it has been cut you can be sure it is too steep. Get a 48/40 advant-edge.

it must be helix cause i have a 50/43 dalton and it rave at 8500 no problem at 70 with red spring

Thanks for the input guys. Kinda sucks I wasted money on that 51/43 being that it was cut but since the guy didnt tell me that it was maybe he'll help me out. No big deal. Turk do you think I might try reducing the tension on my wrap first or what? If it was really cut you'd think I would have been told. It was a local guy on here so I'm sure he didn't know or I dont know. I guess I need a target engagement rpm and then a final on the top end. My other question is when I hammer it how high should it rev and then fall and I guess that would really help. I'm getting close but am still pretty intimidated by the clutching.

You want 8200 or so out of the hole, and 8400-8500 on top end on the 98-99 srx's

the www should engage at about 4200 i thougtht
you have the exact setup i have and I now pull three RevHO's at midrange, where i did not before.

hammer it and watch the rpm. I was at 80 windup on Red on first trial, midrange still beat the revs but i lost it on top end, was at 8900. i backed off to 70 and it is now at 8600 for my 2000 srx - perfect.

stock rx1 is 51/43 so if yours is not right, you should be able to find one cheap (from bruce or others)

not to hijack, but what effect will green have over Red. green is a higher spring rate correct?
