I have a bunch of w2 yamaha jetski oil, can that be used in place of the 2s snowmobile oil?

now people will start a huge debate over this but I ran a 97 SX up to 10,000 miles, thats right 10,000 on TCW-3 walmart oil a couple years back. It doesnt have the same detergents and blah blah blah, but your motor will not blow up on you if you run watercraft oil. My pistons were still in spec at 5000.

i put yamaha 2w waverunner oil in my viper last year by accident, she ran fine. for all we know it is probably the same thing just a different color.

I could (and have) wrote a DOZEN articles about oil and powervalves... There are SO MANY variables that come into place that CHANGING BRANDS of oil has approximately 5% of effect on clean powervalves... PROBABLY even less than 5% if you REALLY want to split hairs.. There are SO MANY MYTHS and so many un truths about oil that its MIND BOGGLING!!!! OIL THAT SMOKES HEAVILY is actually the BEST oil to use considering the internal combustion engine!!! the MYTH is that oil that smokes less supposed to be better oil!!!! HOW UNTRUE!!!! OIL that smokes MORE actually has DETERGENTS that keep POWERVALVES MOIST!!!! When a MOIST powervalve does its "scraping" everytime the motor is started, the MOIST POWERVALVE will SCRAPE THE SOFTNED carbon from the valve whereas the DRY valve will scrape against the powervalve bore and cause unnecessary wear on the cable and servo AND POWERVALVE!!!! Imagine this,,, an AUTOMATIC transmission in an automobile if you will... The automatic transmission has a TRANS FLUID LEAK... The trans has been leaking for a while.... When you wipe the area that has been leaking,, you will notice BEAUTIFULLY CLEAN areas where the leaking trans fluid was,,, WHY YOU MAY ASK?????? Because the trans fluid (oil) has DETERGENTS in there and the detergents are softening the road grime and dirt and grease and the stuff wipes off with a rag... DONT you want the carbon deposits on your powervalves to be CLEAN like the leaking trans???? YOU SURE DO!!!! Will an oil that burns completely during the combustion process attribute to clean powervalves???? NO WAY JOSE!!!! Will an oil that DOESN'T burn completely leave the valve deposits softened?????? SURE WILL!!!!! Will an oil that doesnt burn completely have a tendency to SMOKE???? YES IT WILL!!!!! YOU JETTING and your QUALITY of FUEL and MOST IMPORTANTLY,,, YOUR DRIVING HABITS have MOST to do with your POWERVALVE cleanliness and your BRAND OF OIL have VERY LITTLE to do with it... BUST THE MYTH!!!!!! gary Oles nosboy

The ONLY forseeable problem with using watercraft oil in a snowmobile is the POSSIBILITY of having an oil that is TOO THICK to flow properly when it is BELOW -20 outside... Considering that you live in WISCONSIN and NOT IN SIBERIA,,,, I would suggest using the oil you have and maybe mixing it with an oil that has a WINTER certification!!! Maybe 50-50 when its 20 below zero outside!!! You'd have to do a test on the oil when its very cold outside!!! maybe in a deep freezer?????? Viscosity cups are relatively CHEAP at an automotive paint store and you will know EXACTLY what is going on... For shits and grins,,, you MAY WANT TO put your snowmobile oil through the viscosity cup and see how THAT STUFF weathers!!!! YOU MAY BE SURPRIZED!!!

I've seen some of the newer outboards that couldn't pump tc3 oil when it was 35 degrees, unless you cant get ahold of some 2s or some interceptor, i dont know why you would bother with outboard oil.

I am going to let you guys in on a LITTLE KNOWN trade secret....YAMALUBE is MADE BY CITGO....Citgo also makea a DOZEN other brands from walmart at $7.00 a gallon to TEXACO HAVOLINE at 17.00 a gallon.. IT IS THE EXACT SAME OIL OUT OF THE EXACT SAME TANK!!! Maybe the dye is different, but,,,,a tcw-3 oil is a tcw-3 oil..... Here is another little known fact.. YAMALUBE RING FREE is actually a product called TECRON..... TECRON is produced by CHEVRON oil company....Tecron is nothing more than a REALLY NEAT detergent package!!!!! does it work good!!!!!!!!! IT WORKS WONDERFULLY......... PROVIDING you have the correct controlled enviornment in your combustion chamber!!!!! the CORRECT amount of TECRON will keep your powervalves SO CLEAN that you will think that you have a TRANS LEAK in your exhaust system!!!!!

a LOT of companies sell a low ash (air cooled) and an ashless (tcw-3) oil!!! The manufacturers are getting away from the ASHLESS tcw-3 oils and are NOT recommending them for their powervalve monsters!! I think SKIDOO was the first to get away from the ashless tcw-3 oils.... they sell a POWERVALVe oil that is a low ash and with VERY GOOD reviews!!! the CONVENTIONAL oil market is forever changing and the theorys are being challenged constantly!!! Personally,,, with the intorduction of SYNTHETICs in the 1970's it STILL BOGGLES me why people use garbage like Yamalube in the first place,,,but,,,, YOU COULD PROBABLY buy GALLONS of QUAKER STATE 10w40 and inject that in your viper and see 5000 miles for that matter!!!! I guess I just don't get why people insist on yamalube???????

i dont quite now what you mean by turning your hood white but i ran it in my phazer a few years back. ran fine.

Judging from ytour avitar it seems the damage has already been done. Looks like you got a little on your skis too.

SHHHHHHHHHH NOSBOY. you werent supposed to tell them that supertech comes from the same place as yamalube and polaris oil at a fraction of the price

Last time I checked, YAMAHA motor company didn't have any OIL REFINERIES on their list of owned properties!!! I had a friend named Tom (may he rest in peace) that used to give me bottles that were leaking and damaged of CITGO 2 stroke oil,,(he worked at the citgo plant), Some bottles were Yamalube, some were Texaco Havoline, and some were other brands..We talked about it and he told me of DOZENS of brand names coming from the EXACT SAME tank of oil!!!! in AMERICA, there are 2 companies that produce ETHYLENE GLYCOL (anti freeze).. Go to AUTO ZONE or your LOCAL auto parts store and see just how many different brands of ANTI freeze they are selling!!! I know one of the companies is named DOW CHEMICAL and the other is ASHLAND oil,, One of those companies anti freeze refineries BLEW up last year and production was ceased for some time.. i do not know if production has resumed,,,but,,,that left 1 company in the anti freeze market!!!! IS THAT A SECRET TOO??????

I am not sure that I would see a difference in using yamalube over amsoil, seeing as I do not have powervavles on my sled. I did make the switch thou to amsoil, and I did not notice a thing. I guess I could really see results if I did a tear down on a sled that has used amsoil and a sled that has used yamalube.

I definately notice a huge difference in the powervalves when i switched to amsoil, i dont know if its the oil or my driving habits have changed but the powervalves are always in fairly decent shape, no gumming up which is what yamalube got me
