I have heard it on here before and I wish I would have heard it before I rebuilt my motor. Wiseco pistons and probably every other aftermarket piston sucks a##. My pistons in my srx did not burn through but the ring broke in the middle cylinder, and the number 3 cylinder had the rings seized. So I suggest going OEM when it comes to rebuilding a motor. Mrviper was correct.

I have never used wiseco pistons in anything, but I do know that when I use the yamaha ones in my sled they last long enough to not have to replace them again! 2500 miles and going strong, and they still look like the day I put them in. I am sold on yami parts!!!!!!!

Its not that they are junk, its just that they are not the best chioce for a high mileage trail sled. The rings are thinner, you run more skirt to wall clearance with them and they expand a great deal faster then the yamaha powdered metal forged units. The yamaha pistons will provide alot of miles of trouble free service and with some ring maintence, they will last a long, long time.
I use wiseco's in big bore kits and in full race engines and dont have problems with them, but theres a place for everything.

mrviper, When using wiseco pistons, is it good if you make your bore a little bigger than with OEM pistons? If so, how much?

yes, if the motor is being set up to run these its good to run about .0035"-.0038" clearance in them. The biggest problem with them is the warm up time, they expand very rapidly and are a very hard piston, so cold siezure problems become evident unless you let the motor get good and warm before you venture out in the white stuff. I always tell all the customers with big bores to start up the sled, let it idle and then go put on your gear. When you get done a good 8-10mins later she should be warmed up and ready for battle.
Around here if your gonna have your cylinders renik'd you send in your piston along with what you want your clearance to be and they set them up for you at the platers, milenium,u.s.chrome etc.
