When I bought the 2002 SRX the other day, buyer told me tach doesn't work.He tried one from an SX,still didn't work.I got him to drop the price $200 for that reason. He said he checked all wiring and can't find anything wrong. Why would the tach stop working, the fuel gauge is working.I wander how should I investigate the problem, any help you electrical techs out there.I am looking for a used Tach from the 2002 SRX,but if that don't work, then something else is wrong

Look at the connector where the harness splits forward of the belt guard. Look for the color of wire that runs the tach(I forget what color it is)at that connector and see if all is well on both sides of the connector. Sometimes a terminal will get pushed out due to the locking tang not locking the terminal in the connector. If all is well there, try to separate the connector halves and look for corrosion on the terminals. The connector halves have a double lock on them and they need to be pressed in to be able to pull that apart. It could be that there is a broken wire in the harness somewhere. Also check the connector where all the wiring comes together coming from the mag side. It may be the same issue on that side too.

tach

my 01 had a scuffed wire under the engine the tach was the only thing that didn't work.

Make sure the take is from the right year sled. A single headlight tach will not work with a dual headlight iginition. Its suspect because the owner was trying other tachs.. Did he roll it and need to replace it?

That wire that bluehammer is telling you to check is the yellow/black wire

Ok guys thanks for the heads up on the Tach.I'll check first the part number on the Tach that is in their now,if it is possible.I know in the Yamaha parts an SXR and SRX are two different part #'s,both with different headlights also. But it should be unusal for the Tach itself to quite working I would think, but I could be wrong. Will try and trace wires down the line.A new Tach up here is $300.00 plus taxes. That is silly. But if anyone is parting an SRX with duak headlight system, let me know just in case.I guess I'll have to remove the headlight to be able to get to onbolt the Tach from inside.Easier to do on the SXR,it is in the open.
