You have to take you carbs apart to clean them...there's no getting around it!! The best thing I have found for cleaning jets and carb parts is Yamalube Penetrating Fluid. Take the jets out let them soak in that stuff for a few minutes and they come out like new. Take them off and clean them right (the may be clean when you get in them) b/c it may save your engine....

I have been cleaning carbs for years now and have used a lot different kinds. Now the best cleaner for less money is Berrymans Chemtool. I buy it at Walmart for around 3 bucks a can. This will eat off any crap but the can says it will possibly make an arm grow out of your head!!!! please use it with care. I wear gloves, long sleeves and a mask and googles.

when i suggested the napa stuff i did'nt realize you were looking for some type of additive. as far as an spray type the napa it great hopefully you have air to blow through all the passages.if its real dirty there is no substitue for soaking.

Try {Sea Foam} sold at many auto part stores add to to your fuel as directed cost about $5 great product I use it for my first & last tank full when I do take my carbs apart always clean , I also use a inline fuel filter.

I like seafoam as an additive, and sea foam deep creep as a spray cleaner when they are apart. stuff works great!

A cheap and simple cleaner is ammonia. Will take the green off the carbs. Let them soak and srub them a little. Just don't take a deep breath.

Sea Foam is great stuff, but if your carbs set all summer with gas in them I would take them apart and clean them before using it. I have seen a good number of carbs clogged up shortly after adding Sea Foam because as it breaks down the sludge and scum it gets clogged in the jets and other circuit passages. Ultimately it may clean out if it stays running long enough, but you risk burndown.

ding, good point. most likely the same effect I had using ring-free a few years ago. added it about half way through the season and it cleaned the gunk just enough to actually stick a powervalve. probably for the same reasons you say about the seafoam!

i also used clr before it works great but don't let it sit too long it will eat them right up.if you are careful with it, it is quick and easy it removes all the junk right away.
MEK works wonders!!! you could buy it at a paint supply store!!!VERY DANGEROUS TO HANDLE,,but,,works well!! (methyl ethyl ketones). I'm going to do a post about sucking AUTOMATIC trans fluid through your fuel system for storage throughout the summertime.. It keeps EVERYTHING as FRESH AS A DAISY, fogging your whole motor and cleaning your powervalves ALL SUMMER LONG!!! You will NEVER have to take your carbs apart for cleaning again!!! Also, I will talk about SACRIFICIAL ANODES (fitch) and the molecular structure of todays "oxygenated SUPER FUELS".. For simple carb cleaning I use HOGWASH and for VARNISHED UP SOLID carbs that have been sitting with fuel in them for many years,, i prefer MEK!!! Gary Oles nosboy
