Rode the Viper for the first time this last weekend. After riding for several miles, it takes approximately 10 seconds for the rpms to come down from 4k to a normal idle.

Starting when warm is also a problem. It takes 4 to 6 pulls cracking the throttle to get it started when warm.

Any ideas? Or is this normal for a Viper?

Thanks
YS

If the idel is hanging up, try to blip the choke to see if it comes right down. If it does you are lean on the fuel screws, you need to open them up 1/8 to 1/4 turn. Maxdlx

10 seconds to idle down I think is normal. My sled is the same way. Starting it warm just hold the throttle open a little and it should start first pull. If you don't it will take 3-4 pulls. Starting cold I give it full choke and it starts third pull, then adjust choke as needed.

Even cracking the throttle, it can take 4 or 5 pulls to start. My old sled took a few seconds to idle down and would start when warm with the throttle cracked in one pull.

Thanks for you input guys.

I think I would go over the carbs 1 more time, paying paticlar attention to the pilot jets and fuel screws, remove them and blow carb cleaner up thru the ports in carb till it comes out the little port in front of the carb slide on the engine side of carb, this will ensure it is clean, it shouldnt take more then 1-2 pulls to start warm with a slight crack of throttle, a slightly plugged pilot ot fuel screw circuit will aggrevate you to no end.

Had my new to me Viper out on Thursday, friday, and Saturday. Thursday night it was -30 and it took about 15 pulls for it to fire up. Once warm, it takes only one pull with no throttle at all. Starts every time on the first pull from warm. I guess I'm lucky that way. Normally I'll get it started from cold on the 4th pull. One those bitterly cold mornings, it seems like it takes a few more pulls.
