Hey all. I am successfully running a 98 srx motor in my 02 viper. The viper motor blew up three times on me and I got frustrated and put a 98 srx motor in it. It hasn't had any problems with melting down or pistons since I did it. Seems to be a more reliable engine. Just lettiiing you know in case anyone is doing it and needs help or advice.

No problems with the viper motor.. I just wanted to have a fast, reliable viper with tripple pipes that got good fuel mileage.. I also like to suprise people when the viper gets to the other end of the lake first, that did not always happen with the stocker...

4000 miles, lets say they are all good days, you bought 400gallons of gas, a srx piped viper gets 15 on its good days, it used 140gallons less than you, at 2.40 per gallon that is 336$ more that your pipes cost and counting while you spin the rullet wheel at 9000rpms. not to mention that that same sled will use more oil in that time. you also made 14 more trips to the gas station.
all this is assuming you got 10mpg which is being generous. ive heard of some 12mpg vipers out there, one in town i sold a cylinder to. real safe.
also there is range, some riding requires a safe 100-120mls, piped vipers are close on these trips.
other reason i found had to do with iconsitant jetting, stock shielded pipes keep the air box temps closer to outside temps and they also keep the pipes hot. both these things make jetting way more consitant witch in turn makes the sled run more consistant.

Hey snow3. I'm using the viper pipes by aeen. And I used the Viper wiring. I had to swap the bottom crankcases so that I could use the viper flywheel because the pickup has different positioning with the new smaller flywheel. Also I wanted the 300 watt light system.

Did you have to do any butchering to get the pipes in?

Yea you have to cut some out of the shock tower on the belly pan and you need to modify a silencer to fit it all and get it to line up.
