Anyone have any luck with aftermarket belts? Just checked the price on an 8DN here at my local yammi dealer and he said $70 somthing, I about soiled myself. I have not bought a belt in a few years but I thought I remember about $45-$50 for one.

OEM belts are the best!
Ultimax are CRAP!
I'm sure they have there place, just not under my hoods.
Just my opinion from past experiences.

dito what mulderdad just said, stick with 8DN belts from Yamaha.I paid $88.00 plus tax on mine.I still have the one from last year withj over 4000 km's and still fine, worn maybe 1/3 so far.Had Ultimax# belt and it blew to pieces in some 200 km's maybe. It was $69.00 and cost me $70.00 extra bucks because when it exploded it took out my speedometer cable and left a big dent against the plate before the footwell.

I just purchased a Dayco Ultimax 3 based on a Service and Tuning Notes I read in the Oct/Nov Issue of SnowTech Magazine. The article read that Tom Hartman form Mountain Specialists, Say his experence with the Dayco is that it has a softer compound so there is less slipping and it is a slightly longer belt. Thus allowing you to get the belt ride height in the secondary to the top sheaves while maintaining proper deflection.
So I thought I would give it a try, I only have 30 miles on it so I will let you know how it goes. BTY I purchased it for $65.00 and I installed it on a 2001 Sxr700.
SEE YAA!!

Jay, if everything in your sled is up to snuff it will work great for ya.I ran my last ultimax for 2500 miles before changing it.If one ever fails on you in the first year don't hesitate to send it back, they will get you another one asap under warranty.I have only had one fail in many years and probably 10-12000 miles of riding.

Great, just one more thing the prices are going up on. This all sure is putting some negativity in me.

I run an Ultimax 3... 3000 trouble free kms on it and 0 complaints, no slippage or irregular wear. Personally I will run one again.

I just bought a new 8dn belt and when i put it on it seems to be too tight causing it to squeal on the primary. It sits the same as the old belt in the secondary so i`m not real sure whats causing this unless the belt isnt made right.

There is 3 screws in behind the secondary.
Remove the three washers and put the screws back in. The squeel will go away. It lets your belt ride a little lower in the secondary.

I run the 3 on my SRX drag racing and they work fine. On my 1000 though they don't hold up quite as well as the 8dn.
