A good day of riding gone bad

vipertom you pm box is full. i should know if the tunnel is available by this weekend i hope. i have to remove tunnel from the bulkhead and box it and get a quote for the other guy.

well it seems like you are going to keep it for sure but any chance you would be interested in selling it the way it is once the season's done i've been looking for a viper s for a while and would like a wrecked one but don't see many of them

at least no one got hurt! From just looking at the pics, I think the viper is easily repairable without changing the tunnel, I would remove the bent heat exchanger and the traction bracket, place wood along the length of the boards and beat it back into semi straight shape using the wood underneth as a dolly of sorts, I use a plastic dead blow hammer. Then when you have it close get a scrap aluminum or steel bar, can be solid alum as well, that will fit into the round rolled over lip on the running board, drive it all the way thru till it comes out front, trim off the excess bar and leave it in there, this will keep the running board strong and from ever buckling in the bent spot. it also makes the rolled edge full again from being crushed. Replace heat exchanger with a good one. You can get running board traction inserts from richierich or rox treads and put those on and nobody will ever know the differance. I have fixed a few sleds just like this and some worse that came here and were totalled by the insurance company and they are still on the trail today.

Those revs can bend the bulkhead from just jumping and riding them hard, they are available separate from doo.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to fix it. I've got it set up pretty much the way I want it. I might be persuaded to sell it though for the right price.

Yea, I thought about using rox treads....it would be ALOT less work.

Thats nothing compared to my wreck a few years back. The left side running board was folded almost to the top of the tunnel. i pounded it back down and rivited a flat piece of Aluminum in the groove to re strengthen the running board.

The left running board caught a curb at 40MPH that I didnt see in the fresh snow. I hit it at a 45 degree angle so I flew 1 way and the sled went the other way. I needed a new tunnel, radius rods, hood, windshield, and bent my hartman 121-136 rail extensions. Somehow one of my exhaust pipes came off the header. Didnt sound good at all when I started it back up.
