Help I Got No Spark!!!!! Stator???

Had my 2000 700 SXr out yesterday and it ran AWESOME. I got back to my cabin, shut it off, and it wouldnt start. I've got no spark at all. I started looking at wiring and I had some wires that were wearing on the handlebars. There are two connections coming out of the throttle block. One is a 3 point connector and the other is a 2. The one that is 2 is the one that was worn out. Is that the TORS or the kill switch? Anything else I should look at???????? I disconnected the ignition and still nothing. The sled ran flawlessly, then just nothing. I dont get it. Thanks in advance

Do you have a digital multi meter?

the 2 wire plug is the throttle overide switch, wont make you loose spark just limit the rpm of engine.
 
Thats what I thought I already bypassed the TORS when it was giving me problems last year. where do I go from here?
 
well with a no spark situation its best to always start from the begin to end in the ign system. Down by the recoil, you will see some wires coming out of the engine, these are the stator and pick up coil wires, you will want to do a ohm test on them and also a voltage check on the pulsar coil, this is what sends the signal to the cdi box, which in turn sends the signal to the ign coils.
I looked and unfortunaltely dont have the 2000 sxr manual, someone on here will and you need the ohm test for both the pick up coil and the stator. You also want to do a voltage check off the pulsar coil, this should be varying voltage when you pull the sled over, meaning it will show like .03-.09 volts on a pull from the rope, this means its working and sending the signal to the cdi box.
Once you have that part done we would move onto the cdi box, you know the siganl would be coming from the pulsar coil(only if good) and you would check that at the box, the wire going in to make sure the harness is good, then you would check the out put wire for voltage when you pull the rope, then onto the coils, somewhere you have lost the signal voltage. All you need is someone with a 2000 service manual for your sled to get the readings range and the color of wires your looking for, at worst see if your local dealer will copy the pages from the elctrical section of the manual.

Thanks Mrviper. I have a buddy that I can get the manual from. Electrical is a weak spot for me to say the best. Will the manual tell me how to test?

I have meters and a scope and experience on Yami electrical. Brighton is down I-96 outside big D but 2 or more hours from you. Sorry.
 
I had similar problem as did a bud of mine , we found that it is a wire in the harness that runs under the motor,(pipes) on the belly pan. It rubs the wire bare, Unplug it and pull it out, inspect it and fix. Drove me nuts until i finally found it!

I got the manual last night and everything tested alright. A buddy stopped over for a minute and held the throttle switch wires together and I had spark! It doesnt make sense, it is already bypassed at the carbs. Am I missing something????????? I'll have more time tonight. CHIT! The weather guys calling for more snow in the next week than weve had all season!!!!
 
Alright Mrviper...I think I got somewhere. Initially I had no spark at all. Monday everything tested fine for the source coil, then I had spark out of nowhere. I dumped gas down the holes with spark and compression, and got nothing. Not even a fart. So I went back to square one and ran the troubleshooting tests again and heres what I got.

Specs.
1.)Source coil Resistance for Brown+Black/Red
392-479 ohms at 68 degrees Farenheit.
----I read 607 ohms consistantly last night.

2.)Source coil resistance for Brown+Brown/Red
78-94 ohms at 68 degrees Farenheit
---Here I am reading 678 ohms which is astronomically out of spec.

The pickup coil tested good at 196 ohms when the spec is 189-231 ohms.

So do I start looking for a stator?? I havent pulled the flywheel yet.
So if the stator is bad will it still send spark to the CDI but not enough to fire?

Had the same problem with my 700sx last year .I always had to put new plugs in it before it would start but once it was running it ran great all day.Did a stator check and it was out of spec.Changed it and the sled started on the first pull. The old stator sent some power out but not enough. So, Yes a bad stator could send some power to the CDI but not enough for a good spark to start the sled or at least this is what I found on my machine.Good Luck!

If you are going to pull the flywheel off make sure you have the right puller.It was b#$ch to get mine off even with a good puller.
