Don't let off is all I can recommend. Is a sanctioned event or just a hill? What altitude? 500 foot vertical climb? What is the slope/grade?

There is a hill in the UP that we used to see traffic on that was a bit of a trick to climb. I don't know the footage but the dog-leg to the right 3/4 to the top makes it a real challenge. Then there is the trees all around. It is on private property now. See http://www.mykeeshond.com/snowmobile/troutlake2004/DSCN0076.jpg for a big picture of it. It is near Iroquois Island and Bay Mills Resort. I've never run it but more than a few people I know have and a few of those attempts were successful. Matter of fact I am going riding this weekend with one of the guys that was almost successful if it were not for a rut that was deeper than his running boards were from the ground.

I digress.

My Fathers sled is an '02 Viper ER studded but otherwise stock. It hooks up well but I would not hill climb with it. The stock track is a trail track. If you want to be successful you want a lot taller track.

The sled I have been on that was the best hill climber was a '99 AC Mountain Cat. 1 1.5" paddle. It was no problem in the steep and deep. I wouldn't want to high mark with it as it was only a 600 and at 10K feet it was down on power by 30% from what I am used to. It would still hold the ski's off the trail but not a rocket like today's.

What I am getting at is it might not matter much on the clutch setup you'll run out of traction and thus momentum before the top. There are too many variables with out specifics on the terrain. If it's all dirt by the time you run then your setup might be perfect.

Do you have climbing experience?
