Hey guys,

What is the best mixture to run for the brake-in period for my dad's rebuilt phazer? I was told 20-1 for the first tank and 50-1 for the second tank. 20-1 + the injetor seems pretty heavy to me but I have never done this be for ether.

Thanks, silver

So I kind of like the idea of mixing a little at the start. do you think mixing 50-1 for the first tank or so is bad? Thanks for the comments. I really appreciate them!

you'll be fine with the 50:1 in the first tank only.

My opinion is do not add premix. When you ride a brand new sled it does not have any premix and is as tight as you can get.The moter will run leaner with more oil than reqwired if it is cold out... and will foal plugs if it is warm also makeing it hard to do a proper plug chop. When first starting the moter and bleading the oil pump pull the oil cable so you have full oil going in.Than you will know if it is working properly and not find out after like aj did.Than adjust for more oil like some dealors used to and readjust after your fist tank or two.

Ya you certainly want to make sure the pump is working but I just make sure the bearings are good and wet with 2 stroke oil before I start putting it back together.

At idle or off idle too much oil is bad on plugs, i.e fowling. Then above that too much oil gets in the way of making power. At too high an RPM too much oil in the mix causes very lean conditions and then you end up rebuilding it all over again.

So run a 50:1 mix in a few gallons of gas (2 gal of fresh Premium would be best). When you are nearing empty fill it up with more premium but no oil. Monitor the oil usage on your bottle to make sure it is flowing. Now drive it like you stole it. Seriously there is no reason to baby it beyond the first few miles. Vary the RPM and wait till it is good and hot before you go for full throttle.

I've broken on my 600 after a rebuild 2 years and 1400 miles ago this way and all is well. We had rebuilds on a few Phazers and then 3 or 4 rebuilds on my old '88 Exciter. This way seems to work best from my experience.

Thanks for all the replys guys, I am going out to get it going today and I am sure it will be fine.
