Broken bolt

Mine didn't break, but it came loose (actually came out) in my 2001sxr600 just after I bought it (used). I made the GRAVE mistake of just putting the bolt back in and getting the cover welded up and IGNORING the wear and tear the bolt did to the inside of the cover (and the chain).

First ride of the season my chain snapped, piled up in the bottom of the case and grenaded the case. NOT GOOD. Had to buy another chain case, chain and lower gear. SHould have just replaced the chain when I had the cover fixed the first time around. Lesson learned.

The sound of your chain breaking is something you want to avoid at all costs!!

Good luck.

Same thing DARN HARDENED BOLTS

Same thing happened to me on my 00 SRX 2400 mi. The darn head of the bolt snapped off flush. Then proceeded to get into the chain, turning it into very expensive blender. So after almost $500 a new case with cover, gasket, all new bearings, top gear,& chain (boy that chain just desegregated)
Luckly only going about 20 mph.

$500 bucks!?!?! Man you must've bought all new parts hey? Should be able to do much cheaper than that by buying parts from the site from parted out sleds

Main problem is if you over-torque this bolt it will bend/crack the washer under it. Clean and use lock-tite every time installing bolt back.

So what U are saying that they possibley over torqued at the factory?
I never had mine apart before it blew.

Same thing happened to me. The bottom bolt loosened and the head of the bolt busted throught the cover. Not sure what to replace now. Everything else looks good and Nothing came apart inside. Bearings seem good. Don't want this to happen again though. What do you guys think. Should I replace the bearings, gears and chain or just the cover and locktite and tourque it right.
Thanks

I would at least remove the bearings and get them flushed out very well to make sure there are no metal chunks or shavings in them. Take your time cleaning it all out. If there bearings seem to be in good shape you could reinstall them. I would also change the chaincase very soon after reassembly in order to get out anymore impurities that you didn't get or that were left behind by flushing. Make sure to use loctite on that bottom bolt.
