Here is the run down on my recent trip to the UP. We stayed at the ex air force base in Gwinn Mi. Red Fox Inn. Very nice for $42.00 a night. Sunday we rode from Gwinn to Republic on trail 33, just groomed… awesome, Then we picked up trail 32, awesome, We picked up trail 5 north to Republic when we got to the high lines the trail was groomed but destroyed, huge holes everywhere they will need 2 feet of snow to make that trail nice. We ate lunch in Republic and picked up trail 18, just groomed…awesome. We than picked up trail 111 north to Sidnaw, just groomed…awesome. We headed to Bruce Crossing for premium fuel on trail 8 and we saw 2 groomers. From there we went to Bond Falls on trail 3 south, just groomed…awesome. We ate at the Flowage Bar and Grill (just recently re opened). We headed back to trail 8 east were we saw another groomer. We stopped in Sidnaw to visit my buddy Rich. At this point we had 280 miles on for the day. We ran trail 8 from Sidnaw to Gwinn, all just groomed…awesome. Total for Sunday 405 miles. Monday we too trail 8, just groomed…awesome (do you see a pattern here) to Marquette. We picked up trail 310, the first 2 miles were snirty and full of wood chips from recent logging, the rest of the trail to Big Bay was phenomenal. From Big Bay we took trail 14 to trail 5 (that is the best trail in the world), just groomed…awesome. We than took trail 8 with the intentions of going to The Buckhorn in Munising, 2 miles out of Gwinn my lower bolt that holds the gear on snapped and punched a hole in my chain case. I limped it back to The Red Fox Inn at 2:00pm with 200 miles on fro the day. So we had 605 miles in a day and a half. The U.P. has come a long way as far as taking care of the trail system. All in all we had a great first ride. It could have been an 800-mile weekend, but…Oh well there is always next weekend. When everyone is watching the Super bowl I will be doing Mach 1 with my hair on fire.

I can't imagine riding 400 miles in a day. But it sounds like you had a good time. The place you stayed is actually called "K.I. Sawyer". Has its own zip code. I spent a few years working and living out there. Glad to see people staying out there. They are really suffering in that area from the base closure.

Trails up and around Houghton have been really good. The trails going up into the Keweenaw towards Copper Harbor and Lac La Belle are nice. I go to school up here and ride these trails all the time. If anyone ever needs an up to date on the weather or trail conditions just let me know.

I think the trails around here (gwinn) have been very good this year. However, there hasnt been even 1/4 of the snowmobilers up here yet as there should have been around a normal year at this time. Alot of the local businesses are hurting financially because of it.

I just got back from a three dayer. Houghton, Bruce Crossings, Big Bay, The trails were incredible. And there were very few riders on the trail. Ten below 0 and you had better have good riding gear or your in trouble. We did around 120 - 130 miles a day.

Nope not till we get there. Being mid week we should have alot of choices. Maxdlx
