02 viper, i replaced rings 60 miles ago, cleaned carbs and did pv. last ride sled ran great (breaking in the rings) unloading it from the trailor it seemed to sound funny but i thought that was because it wasnst warmed up and it was very cold. today i started it up and it started fine and ran great. let it idle for a while and then i touched the gas and it started bogging. no fouled plugs they looked good. started it back and and same thing wont idle and when you give it gas it bogs like its sucking air without the air box on. so i take in the field and after the initital bog it runs like a champ. then i stop and was getting ready to adjust the idle down a little and it starts bogging again so i give it some gas and it bogs really bad and backfires a few times really loud and i cant get enough power to move it. eventually it comes out of it and i get it home and pull the plugs. they looked fine checked to see it power valves and servo working. servo works fine. i pull the air box and it looks a little wet but no big puddle of gas. i am hoping its not a crank seal. any other thoughts.
This sounds like the fuel pump freeze up that was a tech bulletin, I had the same thing happen to my 03 when it was real cold, I don't know the procedure to fix it but it has something to do with silicone the vent hole in the bottom of the fuel pump. Do a search on the 02 fuel pump.

i shimmed the fuel when it was new so i dont think that was it but something to look at. but i would think it would be more consistant

Hey Craig,
When it's bogging real bad try burping the choke when you giving it some throttle. If it revs up, or comes out of the "bog" state, then you know you're sucking air from somewhere. I would then use some carb cleaner to find the air leak.
Maybe check make sure you got all your exhaust bolts and intake manifold bolts tight. Keep us updated!
Also, if the bog is only at idle or low throttle positions, maybe check your pilots quick.

i just went out and started it up and it ran fine. with the primary on i sprayed carb cleaner in the gap by the primary and it didnt rev up so i sprayed it on the mag side in the little gap and still didnt rev up. i let it run for a while then took it over in the field again and it ran fine. it didnt act like the tors when it happened. the day i rode it before this all started we road in a lot of fine powder and the air filter on top was covered in snow and ice. i wonder if some of it melted and i suck some in or some froze in the bowls. it does seem to have a very very slight low end hesitation but not to bad. any other suggestions.

It probably did pull some water in to the carbs on ya. If it ends up running fine w/ just that very slight low end bog, just try opening your fuel screws up some. Might clean it up.

if a crank seal was gone wouldnt it act up all the time? also do you have to spray the carb cleaner directly on the seal to get a good amount of it in there to rev it up?

ran it again today for a while and still no problem, must of been a little water. i did notice that my carb heater was turned off and like i said the day we rode it was like 7 degrees with 40 mph winds and alot of fine light powder so maybe something got a little frosty. anyways i just switched my hc's from grey spring to red and changed my weight distribution form 3.3 shoudler and 5.3 tip to just 6.0 tip with the red spring and seat of the pants it huge difference. i thought it pulled hard before but now it hits 8500 and for the shorts runs i could do it just pulled and pulled. i dont know if its just me but seemed to be a huge difference.

Just a quick question about the heelclickers....Is the sled stock except for the kit?
Is it the stock helix. I just putm in my hc's in my viper. I set it up as the paperwork said for the 47degree helix(stock) with grey spring. Its definatly better than stock but think theres alot more i can gain.
thanx

no i am using a 46/36 helix but also running a roller secodary and 21/38 gearing. i would post for mrviper or send him a pm. he can really help you with your setup. i would think the 47 wouldnt be good for your topend.
