when I first stab the sled it has alittle bog but quickly rises rpms, just turn the fuel screws out to 2 full turns?

depends where they are set at know. If it is 1.5 then it probably would. If any more than 2 or 2.25 then should try going up to the next pilot size....just my 2 cents.

its 1-3/4 i believe i'll go 2 turns but just wanted to make sure this was it..hasn't done it before 47.5 pilots

try it if 2.25 turns don't cure it up the pilots.EricMichael said:its 1-3/4 i believe i'll go 2 turns but just wanted to make sure this was it..hasn't done it before 47.5 pilots

might have a little gum in the pilots too if it never did it before, could give them a good cleaning and try it again

What Pipes are you running?? I'm running SLP's and I had to go to a 55 pilot. I was running the screws at 2 full turns out. The pilots cured the problem Until I went to some real aggressive clutching. Now I'm going to go to 2 1/2 turns out.
The best thing to do is screw the screw all the way in and then turn them back out to the setting you want. that way you know for sure they are set correct "no guessing"

I would think that you'd lower clip position for a richer setting, before swapping out pilots.(But I'm no TUNER) Cause SLP's specs call for 47.5 pilots, with fuel screws set at 1 3/4, and clip position set at 3.5. But I also heard of guys running there clip postion set at 3 and still have good piston and plug wash.
Eric, me personally would look into a head mod after this season, cause from I have been told its eaiser to get your jetting set properly. Cause you have the same CC domes straight across. Instead of having to stagger your jetting like ya should with the stock head cause of the 24cc,21cc,21cc dome sizes. So really your MAG side is your hottest cylinder not the PTO, cause of the cooling design of the head and the higher compression(MRVIPERs Info). I know I wouldnt jet straight across with a stock cut head, cause of the tighter squish, which the stock head is made for the single pipe set-up not triple pipes. But this is MO of the situation, but has been proven by some TY members to be safer and easier route as long as you pay attention to what your doing.
Guys out there running stock cut heads with triple pipes......... Again this is MY OPINION. But have been told its a safer way to go other than a A/M head.

My sled was jetted and dialed in on a dyno. The jetting was set based on the Piston Wash.
As far as moving the clip on the needle this will not help from what I'm told. the pilot along with the fuel screw setting and a change in a Air jet are the only things that will fix a lean bog.
We started with SLP's baseline settings. They didn't work on the dyno at all.
When it was al said and done the sled made 158 hp and over 100 pounds of torque. Not bad for a Viper.

Well you must be getting about 2-3mpg running those 55 pilots, if guys out there are running 47.5 pilots and getting 8-10mpg. Alot of the guys I have talked to running these pipes havent gone any higher than 50 pilots running at sea level.
If ya dont believe me check out this thread:

I'll wait for Don to chime in before I take your word for it.

I don't trail ride it. I drag race it. If I had a trail track in it I'm sure I could run a leaner Pilot. The Speed track and aggressive clutching calls for more pilot.

yeah i'm going for the trail set up..I mean i drag race in the summer and attend a few radar runs in winter but as far as running staggered jetting i'm not. I'm running 165 mains all the way across, runs rich on the mag side and somewhat in the center but i'd rather be safe than sorry..my idle is low at like 1600 and if i turn it up anymore it high idles..there was a thread on here about this, I'm guessing its my fuel screws or a plugged jet. NOW last weekend I had to run regular becuase they had no super..would this have anyhting to do with clogging or anything? ..maybe I should just clean it and adjust it again to 1-3/4 turn per slp specs? or be better off cleaning and adjusting to 2 turns out?

yeah expertx i'm def. going to consider the head mod..heard it wasn't really necessary on the 02's..do you have any idea why?can you just have the stock head cut, any power gains?

Pretty sure all the head designs were the same from 02-05. Only diff. in years was 04-05 Vipers were equipped with DCS. From my reading DCS actually makes it more of a task to run pipes unless you do the head mod. A DCS stock head with pipes seems to trick the DCS light causing you to let off and wonder whats going on. But you dont have the DCS system so really it shouldnt be a concern of yours. But take a look at this thread it'll help ya to understand CC , Squish angles , squish clearence:

Do yourself a Favor and locate some mega power heads and a head plate. They have utilize a water rail like an SRX an have way more cooling capacity. I was running 150 mains across the board on Saturday and holding for well over 1000 feet with no problems. When you read the plugs it showed slightly lean but he motor was hauling the mail

So your telling me by just running my Mega power heads, you can drop your mains down to a 150 from SLP's 162.5 main at sea level and temps above 0 degrees???????? This I find VERY HARD to believe WITHOUT running your carbs vents to the atmosphere. Then its a lil bit more believable.

No no I'm not telling you that at all. I know for a fact my motor and every motor is different would be safe running 152.5 on the mag and PTO cylinders with a 155 in the center. With that jetting I had trail piston wash on my plugs and pulled 157 hp and over 100 pounds of torque on the dyno. The advantage of the heads is the cooling. The stock head has problem on the mag side. It doesn't have enough cooling capacity.
I do not run my airbox plugged in . The line are vent to atmosphere. Currently I run SLP pipes, Mega power heads, with Ported cylinders and a Moded air box. If my Cylinders weren't ported I know I could run in the high 140's for mains.
If I was you I'd unplug the vent line and start manual jetting it and checking the wash.

Set your idle up a bit over stock, back air screw out in 1/4 turn intervals watching idle speed. If idle speed increases continue backing out. When you reach 2 1/2 turns out increase pilot size and start back at 1 1/2 turns on air screw. This procedure should get you to a proper pilot and air screw adjustment if all is in good condition.

This guy just listed a set of Mega Power Heads on amsnow.
