Hey guys, I'm thinking of making some mods to my viper so it can keep up with the bigger sleds. I'm riding around with some m's and 800 and 900 sleds. I bought a Viper last year and we had a bad year last year and this year hasnt been the greatest neither. I was wondering if I should mod my Viper or just buy something newer. Was wondering if theres any used pipes, used skid, tunnel, seat, shocks, etc. Was also wondering what would be the cheapest way to completely change my handlebar, throttle, brake and cables... I don't want to spend a whole lot of cash, thats why I want to buy used here...So should I mod or just buy something newer?

If you want more power than your 120hp Viper sell it, and BUY A APEX!!!!!!!!!!!! Cant go wrong with the relibilty and the MPG of a four stroke. One will be in my future in the next 2 years, I wanna wait to see what Yami comes out with nexted, thats when my Viper will become my lake/play sled when MPG doesnt matter.
is it true that they burn alot of oil those 4 stroke ???

Is this a for real question??????? ANY 4 stroke machine (Truck, Car, Bike, Quad, Sled, Lawnmower, etc.) is NOT made to burn oil. So if you are you burning oil you may not show problems right away but they will come eventually. If you dont know your burning oil and your oil runs low, say good bye. If you know your buring oil in your 4stroke and you dont check it regularly and you run low, say good bye.
But this is , so this is my last post on that topic.

Its all depends on how deep your wallet is and if your a 2 stroke fanatic. If you want a 140plus HP 2 stroke I'd still sell the Viper for a SRX before installing A/M pipes on a Viper.(I made this mistake and bought everything) But then looks came into play some people go on looks, some go on performance.(Me looks took over the perf. aspect so I bought all the goodies) If you go with a SRX, you can upgrade your suspension with Viper shocks and limiter straps.(Cheap Upgrade)Then find a set of Ohlins for your front end which can be found relativly cheap also.
All depends on you and your wallet size. Cause a Viper with A/M pipes, your only gunna get 10-12mpg and that is your LUCKY. On the norm is more along the lines of 7-9mpg, compared to a SRX getting 12-15mpg. Both running on prem.

Look around for used parts. I found used Benders and clutch kit on here for 500.00 They are available, but be patient. If a new sled is out of the question I would mod it, but cross your t's and dot your I's. If you do it half-assed you'll get in trouble. Personally I think I did it back wards....got the pipes and still have the orig. track. got great power now, but no hook up. go in this order: Comfort mods, Hook up mods, then power mods.

Wow...I've never heard of someone saying they need to keep up the other boys unless if yer riding a 440...I ride with ZR900's and a few other big boys and am always on their bumpers in the twisties...hehehehe
There's tons of mods for a viper...Just depends on how big yer wallet is...if its bigger go for a 4 stroke or SRX...Some people say hooking up first...Track and aftr mrket Control rods...Others say Clutch...53/43 is a good start...and weight reduction(rotating first) the unsprung etc...Pipes are obvious if your location lets em...Smaller windshield...new skis...less drag...and a few others...torque Limitor...risers, reeds, spacers...etc...the list is endless...
Half of my machine is used parts from here or ebay...Hopefully I'll go faster this year than last...next year I'll add more on...Good luck

nother vote for "it depends on if you're mechanically inclined". once you start modding it can a does get expensive. not just in parts and fuel but, mess ups, over sights bad fuel, ect... if you dont know how to avoid the pitfalls and find yourself asking questions everyday about the mods you are thinking about, and dont know enough to install, maintain and tune the mods, buy a larger cc sled.
stock may suck, but it is cheap insurance that you wont burn down. there is no replacement for displacement. dont get caught up in the my sled is faster than yours deal. because someone always has a faster sled out there. and believe me, pistons and cylinders sound cheap at first, then there's clutching, then theres heads, then suspsension, skis, track, dont even go into cosmetics. LOL!
all boils down to you and what you want, and how deep your wallet is.
one of my mottos, in life and snowmobiles, it is expensive to be stupid. read, you could make a small mistake or a large one, but sooner or later it will cost you. and it could cost alot. ski

I would kkep the viper and start with some clutching, just get a 53/43 green spring , this cost less then $100 new from cbperformace, and made a world of difference, and if your happy get a good track like the 9830 or hacksaw. Then if you dont like it sell it.
for your bars i got a 2 inch riser block and i love it, made a huge differnece, still not tall anough to stand for along time but anough to tallerate for a while, and you dont have to lengthen your cables.
