00 SRX with 1.25 track and hauck #4 clutch kit. Stock gearing with long traveled rear suspension.
When we run it on a lake the rpm's fall off. It goes to 84-85 and quickly drops to about 7800. When we changed the secondary to 80 from 60 it was a little better and even seemed to try to come back. This sled is new to us so we went over the basics. First verified all clutch parts with Hauck. Everything is as should be. We then switched the primary and secondary with another SRX. The problem was the same, and that set-up works well in my 99 (Heelclickers). Next we adjusted power valves. Two were a little too far open and the third was flush. We used the "drop the rpm" method and felt by hand. I am now at a loss. The sled does have a tempaflow. It runs great other than this rpm issue. Obviously with that drop in rpm it is not very fast in a race. We need to run it again now after adjusting the power valves, but I don't expect that to be it since they were open too far if anything. Any ideas?? Any help is appreciated!

what jetting is in the sled? does it have a cold air kit or anything like that on it?

No cold air kit. All stock. I do not know what jetting. You think it could be too rich and not making good HP? It's a thought because the tempaflo is on there so the jetting may have been messed with.
Also - Compression is 120 on all three. It's a crappy gauge, so it's probably more like 125 across.
Ran it again after the power valves were adjusted and same problem. Comes up to 8400 and drops to close to 76-7800.

its very possible the mains are either too rich or lean, they will lay down on topend and lose rpm both ways, carbs would be the first place I would look since you did all the rest.

OK. Jetting is 148.8 on 2 and 150 on one. (01 Specs) We are going to bypass the tempaflow and also change jetting to 00 specs. Doesn't look like jetting was it, but the tempaflow could be acting up. We'll eliminate that and post back.

ya, I dont think the jetting is it either, wouldnt bother changing the mains. just bypass the tempablow and see how it runs. Also, when you go out to the lake, make a long pull on it(over 700ft long at wide open) and then just hit the kill button and roll to a stop, pop out the spark plugs and see what color they are?? this will instantly tell us the condition of the engine running.
I think you are too lean. When installing a tempaflow, you are supposed to jet up to -29c (-20f) that includes all, pilot jets, needles and main jets. Unless your altitude is between 800 and 2500 feet, you are too lean

Well the mains were changed to 00 specs and it ran a lot better. With the clickers it went to 8300 and then down to 8100...and then climbed back to 83+ but ran out of room. Then the clutches were switched out for the Hauck #4 kit. It then ran about 8400 and stayed there basically the whole way. I think we have at least found the problem. I think we could change the sec. to 70 and it would be right on....BUT... I really didn't expect that jet change to make that big of a difference. I am still wondering it that tempaflo needs to be taken off. It's also pretty cold here today, so I am wondering how it will run in warmer temps. If the tempaflo does it's job it should be ok...Thanks for the help!
