somebody please help!!!! what is top rpm for a 1980 440 srx? I'm getting all kinds of conflicting info. If you really want to impress me, how about peak torque rpm. Also what can i expect from removing airbox and installing 38mm rondslides. The motors fresh, jetted pretty close, and it's a mutt, 71mph in a 1000'

8800/9000 , TAKE THAT TOO THE BANK. THIS OF CORSE IS '' STOCK '' RPM. AND NO DON,T REMOVE AIRBOX, EVEN IF YA CHANGE CARBS. 3:16 (tony)

okay this is bordering on ridiculus, i can't get two people to give me the same # i have a comrt clutch n2 weights purple spring and everything is freewheeling and true and straight I know the sec spring is weak, one slightly worn bushing in drive clutch and a bit fat that don't add up to -1000 rpm

I,LL TELL YA MY INFO AIN,T RIDICULIUS. THAT IS PERFECT CLUTCHING FOR THAT SLED. YOUR PROBLEM IN THE SECONDARY. CHECK TWIST TENSION. 3:16 (tony)

make sure your center to center measurment is right ,it should be 270mm between the center of clutch bolt to the center of secondarybolt,clutch offset should be 5.5mm make sure you have the right drive belt. max1106 1099mm outside circumference or stock belt, i think it called for 8k2 yamaha belt but probably is now a 89L belt ive seen losses of 5 to 10 miles an hour with worn out clutch roller bushings i would replace them.secondary sheave should slide smoothly opening and closing on shaft, the 3 shoes the helix slides on should be smooth and in good condition, some times 1 breaks and will hang the secondary from shifting smoothly secondary spring should be in #3 hole and 90degree springload this should get you headed in the right direction

WIND IT UP!! It made alot of difference in my Exciter 340 with it's stock primarty. I have 3 secondaries to test on my GPX when I fire her up tommorow! I have everything from 1 to 3 twists of the spring to test out. I just wound the EX up 1 turn over stock and it made alot of difference. My GPX right now has a red/yellow spring and C weights in it. My other engine has a clutch with N1 and Purple spring.

back off your secondary drive clutch the spring is to tight you should get about 85 to 90 mph the rpm should be at 7 or 8 thow hope this helps.

1980 srx

Thanx alot everybody. This is my first oldy, I'm alot better with the newer stuff I'll start digging into it again and get the radar out again once it warms up above -20 Thank You

Hey, Has anyone ever tryed that old yellow green comet spring. I used it in my 440 rotax mod years ago. But that ran 10,000 rpms. But using heavy weights and that spring just might wake everything up. Years ago every one used it. Ya never know. Test , test and test. It's the only way. Just my 2cents. again. Dean-o

yea thats a good spring . i have one of those. just cant seem to find it. how you doing dean?

DEAN, NOT IN A 80. COMET ACTUALLY CALLED OUT THE STRAIT YELLOW. WHICH WAS REPLACED BY THE PURPLE. YELLOW GREEN TOO MUCH FOR STOCK 80. 3:16 (tony)

yellow=engagement 99 lbs./in. full shift 250 lbs./in. yellow/green=128 lbs./in. 276lbs./in.
