Ok guys , good question , Have a 1978 exciter 440 , Lots of mods , Only getting 6800 rpm im kinda confused i put shims in the primary and tighted the secondary it ingauges at 3800 rpm one night i took it out and got 140 km out of it now only 110 km any ideas , im thinking maybe a berring theres a idler wheel missing a peice and theres some track clips missing , maybe the rub from rubber against the plastic ? Any help would be great

One thing I can tell you is that Yamaha listed the peak HP and peak torque on that engine as being @ 7000 RPM's. that's on a stock sled. the only way to get one of these old sleds running right is to get a service manual and go through the whole sled and make sure everything is right.
