I purchased a 98 600sx for my wife that is box stock. It foulded out the old plugs in the garage so I did not think much of it. Then I put new plugs in it and rode it all day sat with no problem other than a slightly low idle. Today when I started it and let it warm up the idle was really low and it acted like the plug was fouled. I turned up the fast idle screw at least two turns and now it idles but does not stay idling it will stall out. I check the choke and it does not seem to be stuck. But I'm a little baffled why I had to crank the idle screw up so much and it really does not react well to it. I'm thinking the pilots might be rich and fouling plugs. Does this make sense? I have never experienced rich pilots. Anything I should check?

is what mine is doing,,,2001 600sxr,,,,droping a cylinder at low rpms, cleaned carbs, new plugs, still the same. any ideas? n0rt

Pilots are more for the just off of idel into mid range. Turn your fuel screws in till lightly seated, counting turns. Then take them back out to 1/2 turn less and try it. Maxdlx

The little bastards on the bottom that a pain to get too. I believe they are on the intake side. If you flip the carb you'll see them. J

wonder if they all are set the same? some of my jets were'nt when cleaned,,,,seems like it was the intake side bottom of throat t/y n0rt

I cleaned up the carbs good, blew them out with air and set the fuel screw to 1.5 out as the manual states. Started her up and had to reduce the idle so I think I got it fixed. J

mine were out over 2+ so i took em in and back out 1.5,will post how it goes after i get it back together,,,still waiting on some parts.thanks for all input n0rt

started but was hard to keep running without hitting throttle and choke, lotta backfire out silencer....strator? cdi box? sled sat outside a few years before i got it, any help appreciated n0rt

sounds like lean pilots.did it get better or worse after you cleaned the carbs? if it runs better with the choke on its lean. If it backfires when its cold its another sign of a lean pilot. Try backing them out some more.. If you go much moret than two turns you need teh next size jet. If the problem was there before you cleaned the carbs stat with the cheap easy tests before jumping to the stator. I would check the resistance of the spark plug caps. They can make the sled do soem strange things.

has 145 jets, was out 2.25 turns i turned them in and backed out 1.75. giveing it a rest thinking snow, n0rt

going to pull carbs again and remove jets to clean better, will post how it goes after the weekend, thanks for input, n0rt

ok pulled the jets looking to clean sideways holes, made the diffrence as it woke up and is doing much better. thanks for advice!
