well i did a search already on here and found a couple answers but i figured id tell ya my problem
well today i found some nice powder spots, about 3 feet deep so i decided to take my srx in it it was fun but after a while my machine would bog.. does this mean i need an exhaust deflector? if so where can i buy one?and is it easy to install? and will it interfere with my trail riding?

another thing i noticed on one of the vents on my hood im missing that black plastic piece that covers the clutch from getting wet. does anyone have one here i could buy? besides that does anyone have any other suggestions or cheap mods i can do to play in the powder so i dont get that bog?

thanks for the help and sorry about all the questions

Hi man!

I know how annoying it is when the sled starts to bog just as the fun starts.
My SRX run crappy in the powder last year, I was really frustrated so I first got an exhaust deflector from a MM, the stupid thing is that I actually didn`t get to test it in the powder after I mounted it because it was near the end of the season and the snow was hard everywhere.

I wanted to be sure that my bogging issues were cured, so before this season I got a Bender Cold air kit reduce the chance of air starvation. And, I do think the cold air kit helps because I can ride forever with my hood covered with snow.
I also bought a used Bender can, I was told that the Bender can was less "restricted" inside and that it would make it run better in powder because the exhaust escaped better?.

When it comes to the deflector, it`s purpose is to make way for the exhaust in the snow so that it doesn`t get trapped around the outlet. I`m not sure what happens when it does, but I guess (on of my wierd theories) exhaust builds up inside the pipes and eventually when the pipe gets full of exhaust, the exhaust will go back into the cylinder and make it run crappy?. However I find it unlikely, I can`t imagine that it`s possible since the sled moves forward all the time and the conditions under the exhaust outlet varies. Hmm.

Another theory is that the trapped exhaust can find it`s way back into the hood (if there is a gap between the canister outlet and the hole the sled) and then be sucked into the engine again. Let`s say that all of your airvents are blocked by snow already, and then this happens, it could run crappy?.

If snow hits the clutches then the belt can slip and this can also feel like a bog I think since you give it throttle but it doesn`t respond like you think it should.

I personally think air-starvation is the biggest problem. But that`s just something I think because I know that engines needs alot of air to work.

I might have written something now that isn`t correct and if I have then tell me, I`d like to find out exactly what happens when an SRX bogs in powder snow.

One thing I have discovered is that the higher speed you have when carving, the better the sled runs and the better it feels:).
That also goes for climbing, keep the speed up and keep the nose up.. .
But then again, you can`t go fast if you don`t know what`s under the snow.. rocks and shit.. .

Wellwell good luck 92vwgti!

I have an 01 700 MM. It only bogs when I carve hard on the right side ( exhaust side ). The deflector does not seem to help much. But in saying that I have ran in lots of powder with no problems as long as I do not carve on the exhaust side. It has never affected me on a climb.

hey thats alot of snow there wow...not as much as i was riding in but il try a couple of things hopefully it works

I am also running Bender tripple pipes.
The exhaust side bog is about the same as
it was stock. I am not using a cold air kit but I am using a
Holtzman ATACC. It really helps alot with the tripple pipe jetting.
Here's another pic from the same day
