Yes it will fit, I just went throught this. If you check the parts catalog they are the same part number but one letter is different but I I think that is for the different colors that they came in. I just replaced mine off of my 97 MM.

thank you but are you sure----i know the MM has a narrower ski stance than the SX or Vmax----mine visually is the same color as my 97 Vmax 600 and they show up in the parts finder as different part numbers.

Shock mounting bracket angle is different. That's probably why its a different PN

Shock absorber mounting brkt is 7 degrees on a mm and 10 degrees on everything else. You probably won't notice but its DIFFERENT.

thanks a ton for the info---awe what is 3 degrees!!!! I guess I will keep looking for a MM trailing arm---I see where the aftermarket arms are all the same--one size fits all. I will try and keep it stock though.
Another question---just bought used spindles off ebay. I remember yamaha had a recall on the spindles when they came out in 1997---any way to visually tell if you have the new spindles that they repaced the old ones with----seems that the defect was in the heat treat or somethinng like that??????????

MMax trailing arms have an ( S ) stamped on the welded radius arm mount bracket.Color doesn't matter, only on part number
