I purchased a 2000 MMax recently with a grenaded engine. No problem I'll rebiuld sounds simple. Well besides shipping issues I have found on closer inspection that the two cylinders that did not melt down had issues. I found both pistons skirts cracked on the intake side of the piston. I discovered when that a peveous owner had some Mods
cylinder mods done
1 layer of gasket between cylinders and block
2 layers of gasket between cyloinder and head
factory pistons
bender pipes
v-force reeds
no spacers
dial jet (by holtzman)
Will installing OEM gaskets hurt and what may have caused the problem

is the bottom of the piston skirt shiny? worn out rings. if not it swollowed a lot of snow ! cold on hot will do that.
skirt is not shiny and the rings look good but the head mod that a previous owner did has the skirt on the cylinder Modifide on the intake sdie could that be an issue. cold fuel hitting the piston on intake splashing against piston. I don't know I am just quessing there is much more knowledge out there than what I possess any help appreciated

check piston to cylinder clearance too much slop will cause the piston to rock back and forth and the skirts to break.

Also detonation may cause it.
