What is the proper recoil routing and placement of the protective spring for a '00 Vmax?
I removed my chaincase and now I am not sure if I have the recoil rope routed correctly. Does anybody have pics for reference? My first attempt resulted in flattening the spring somewhat, still protects it but I know it shouldn't be in a position to do that.
Thanks,
Al

That might be part of the issue... I got a new recoil and maybe they gave me the wrong one or a generic one?
The protector slides down and slips over a collar on the housing, but maybe it doesn't need to protect anything if it was for a model with reverse or electirc start? Or the protector might need to be mounted closer to the handle?
Any way it would be similar to part #14 shown in the pic.
I also found a pic of someone else's sled that shows the protector, but it isn't routed yet...

It goes behind the clip that holds the coolant hose up

Just the rope or the protector too?

I have never seen the protector before, I could assume it goes in that bracket. My 97 did not have that.

Thanks Old Thumper and Yamahasrx700 for the pic and reminder of the brkt it needed to go through, it cleared things up. Basically I just needed to route it through the brkt. that positions the coolant tube and I was all set. Glad I didn't damage the rope not having it there for a while.
