Finished a week of riding in Idaho and Montana high country. Worked a few more bugs out of my 1998 custom SRX. Other sleds incuded 3 Yami turbos, new 700 Polaris and 1000 Acat, and a nitrous Polaris and SkiDoo. Make no mistake, while its fun to make an old sled work well enough to play with the new ones, new sleds have come a long way since 1998. And if there was ever any doubt about the performance value of the turbo charger on a 4 stroke......holy chit. Here's a plug for the Turbo guys from Mercury Service. They brought a new Apex, an older 4 cyl and a new Phaser, all rear turbo'd. We were comparing track speeds during long climbs on the back side of Jefferson. The best 2 stroke spin speed was around 50 mph. The Apex was 82 mph with low boost. Unbelievable exhaust sound and you have never seen a sled hold the skis up while climbing like these turbos.

My SRX engine has been ported and the pipes are coated. Using the 10 series weights that came in the mountain viper. It wants to spin at 8400-8500 rpm and feels like its making good power, although I would appreciate some advice on what RPM I should run it at. My spin speed is 48 mph during long climbs. I found a wiring rub on the harness after it started to shut down at exactly the worst times. Had to cut the harness where it heads down under the motor. I have no dash guages so no matter but my digatron quit, and it is wired to the blue headlight wire found in the handlebar harness. I will take some wire with me on the next trip and replace the harness if I have to but would rather pick up 12 volts somewhere else for the digatron. Does anyone know what wire of the set running under the motor will give me 12v? Thanks in advance. I included a few pics my SRX and the Mercury Service turbos.

rpm,s are only just a little high but that will give you the best track speed & backshift. Adding a little more mass to the weights will give u a little better acceleration but your backshift will get worse.

you say you were riding with the merc service boys sounds cool what were they riding or was it a ride they had rodded I here they are the gods of four stroke in Sask.

That's them on the Apex and Phaser turbo's in the photos. Yea, they know how to make them work. I actually turned down an offer to climb the apex up a mountain in Idaho. Didn't think my heart would take it.

Hey Alvin, i took that trip to Revy and it was "GREAT", we were BLOWN away by all the beautiful Apex Turbos, when they ripped around we would stop and watch in amazement, they sound so "unbelievable ", although we noticed that all the Apex guyz were all about 20 years old, i wish i could of rode a sled like that when i was 20. i will post some pics when i get a chance...

Hey ModMMax,

What type of throttle & oil cables do you use?

TNTMAX used the powermadd extenders, but I have been looking @ the ones on MPI website.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Thx
Feeze ;)!

Your track speed is too low if your only spinning 48. Why the swith to 10's? What secondary ru running and helix angle? Your r's are bang on. What rivets....................SRXtreme
