I went to a radar run today and ran the Viper. I ran 86 mph and my son ran it 87 and 88. It was a 1300 run and my sled is stock except for 144 picks.
I thought it would have been faster.
How do they determine classes, they had me in improved stock class?

The improved stock class consists of modified snowmobiles. You can run pipes or an aftermarket exhaust canister, port the motor, rework the heads, bore the carbs, run reeds, etc. You must run the stock front and rear suspension, retaining atleast 2" of suspension travel. You can run speed tracks, minimum 1/2" lug.
The stock class you cannot modify any engine, carburetion, or exhaust components. The rest is basically the same.

There are rules for both the trail classes and pro classes. Check it out.

on my run the last time i looked at the speedo it said 97. On my sons 2 runs it was 100 mph.tungsten said:You should have seen close to 100mph, What did your speedo say?
there wasn't any 700's much above 95.
I thought the viper should have been at least in the 90's

try to get ahold of fischer motorsports in south saint paul the next time you are
racing. i'm sure you have good people up there. maybe jeff will have something
else for you to try. personally i don't think that's totally off the mark of time.
a friend of mine ran 98 mph on a highly modified 600zrt. good luck

Hey,
I also have an 03 Viper, and I had it going 92 on GPS, speedo said well over that, but I never got to stretch it out though. and it was on a road, and I ran out of space. 100mph is really tough to break, and radar runs and GPS's don't lie. I think many speedo speeds are far too inflated.

I have had mine over 100mph on GPS. Last night I saw 117mph on the speedo. When mine says 108-109 pn the speedo, it's about 102 on the GPS.

Last year I ran gps a couple times on a long long railroad bed at night. I weigh about 150lbs..maybe less last year, sled said 129 speedo, gps read 110

before I studded my sled, I had the dreameter up to 114, and it would run 109 all the time. I did gps it up to 96 across the lake earlier this winter. The radar run was 1300 feet and the beginning of the trac was pretty tore up when i ran, it took probably close to 250 feet to hook up. my belt had over 600 miles on it, and my studs are pretty aggressive, so i am sure that all contributed. My sled is setup for the trail. It's amazing that i ran within 1 mph of my son (I have 75 pounds on him).
I have had my 99 srx up to 119mph on radar and gps in 2000' run. Then on the weekend I also went to a radar run 2000' and only got 107.8 on radar. That was with the same setup. But I was never able to pull my rpm. I think it all depends on the conditions. At the radar runs their was a real strong sidewind, and that makes for alot of friction to overcome.

Bingo, conditions are everything.

Finally had mine out on the weekend...did a few mods..nothing great..but didn't think my performance would suffer...very hard to break 100mph...now my conditions weren't great...buuut I was surprised...later noticed my oil pump mighta froze...road later and boy was it a different beast...however...couldn't find the room to get er passed 101mph...last year I had it to 113 on the dreammeter...still dialing in...
