I was wondering what the opinions on peeling the head gasket has been for you Viper owners whove done it . I did it on a 97 700 SX I had and it seemed to run pretty decent on super . Ive read a few mixed opinions on it here but never a thread just on it itself . Im running stock pipe with a bender can and a bender clutch kit . .no other mods . I just want to know how reliable it is . My old 700 SX seemed to almost need it to make power . Any opinions ? :letitsnow

Just do the compression test before and after like I mentioned in the other post. Our other stock Viper is stronger than mine and it has 130/145/145 in each hole. We have two different compression testers and they both show the same. You can buy one from hiperformance engineering for around $30.00

I've been talking to Jaws performance guy and he says add 1 if anything. He said the Viper has a history of detination which may cause a lot of culprits. He claims you get better top end even if you run Jaws pipes. I would be very cautious about it myself.

Ok Im thinking of doing this too this week, what is needed, do i need to add copper gasket on the head and between the gaskets.

I did a compression test abhout amonth ago and i was like 118 132 132 i think.

I read all the squish info and i still dont fully understand how to do. Can someone post a squish check for dummies.

Jay, MRVIPER explains everything you need to do to check the squish clearance in Post #3. After you do what he instruct's measure the "SQUISHED" end of the solder with calipers.

so you bend 2 pieces of the .080 solder and put it in the spark plug hole left and right, then turn it over to squish it right then measure the squish.

Yes just make sure the "L" is aligned over the wrist pin when you turn her over or you could end up with a fasle reading. Youll need 6 peices total to measure all the cylinders, 2 for each cylinder. When I tested mine with the Mega Heads I used .120 lead solder, dont use any LESS than .080(Dons Orders). I came out with a squish clearance of any where from .053-.056, all pistons within .001 of each other. This was the stock head gasket with the middle gasket removed, but I mention again this was for MEGA POWER HEADS with 24cc trail domes!!!!
