I have 2002 Vmax 700 and my brother have a 2002 Viper. They are both 700 triples but he seems to be able to get better fuel economy than me. Is this normal? Any idea of anything to check to improve this?

yes he will get better mileage then you. If you are completely stock then yes you can improve on the gas mileage with a few mods that will actualy increase performance but get better fuel mileage.

I know this is a different sled but my mileage has improved greatly. This is what I did to my 98 vmax 600 (twin). Reed spacers, head gasket mod, rebuilt clutches, cleaned carbs, all new bearings and well greased skid. I am now with in a dollar or two of my brothers Viper at a fill.

I think my two sleds used to be very close to each other. I have an 02 VMax 600 triple and it gets 13-14mpg average. On a good day it will do 15. I also have an 04 Viper. My Viper used to do 15-16 average. But, my Viper mileage dropped to 9-10. It is sitting in the dealer now trying to figure out why.
Anyway, the plugs from the VMax are very black when I pull them. Right on the edge of fouling because the thing runs so rich. It is stock jetted. I would think that dropping a jet size would probably really improve the gas mileage and plug life.
