srx man. Give it hell. Treat it right and it will more than treat you right. Little maintenance goes along way and you will get A LOT of trouble free miles. In fact i have a great srx for sale in the classifieds, and i bet i'm really going to miss it!!!

so you guys think a 780 srx will be faster in a straight line then a stock rx-1 and be better in the trails? decsions decsions lol cant make my mind up because one is older but with work done and the other is newer but with more miles

I am always fearful of someone elses mods. they did it to go faster, so the thing could have some hard miles. and if they havent properly maintained it it could be real trouble. the rx1 is a nice sled, but if you ride more groomed trails and want a lake sled I would say srx. the first rx1 was halfway there. they had them well sorted by 05 with the mono, and the apex is a fantastic sled. my $.02 I would get a clean srx and leave it alone if the other choice was an 03 rx1. yamaholic relaly DOES have asuper clean sled for a good price

04 or newer rx1 with newer seat, and an m10. 4strokes kik two strokes a$$ for trail riding, noise, smell, dirability, and gas/oil milage.

true, had forgotten about the newer seat in 04. and at that point, the 4 strokes are a better trail sled. I just wasnt all that keen on the 03. wasnt quite there yet

We have an srx and an 03 rx1 i think that the better choice would be the rx1 one becuase it is newer and more reliable especially if the srx has mods to it, but thats just my 2 cents. Oh, and as far as the seat it is not to bad stock but if it dose bother you you can have it stuffed with an extra 1 or 2 inches of padding, it really makes a diffrence, we had it done to our rx1 and my viper as well as my brothers what a diffrence since we are all about 6'5 those extra few inches you can slide back really help.

The SRX is going to be the faster sled. Me personally, Id take the RX-1 because I love the way they sound and because it has better suspension. I also think they look really cool with the dual tailpipes coming out the back.
However, if all-out performance is your main concern, SRX all the way.

First RX was not so "good" Find newer or stick with SRX

The '03 RX-1 wasnt that bad. The rear suspension (with the broken w-arm issues) was really the only weak link. That was an issue on all ProAction rears since '97. Weld some gussets on the w-arm and its good to go.
With a few simple mods you can make the '03 RX-1 corner like its on rails and with a turbo there is no sled that would be able to touch it.

How much do those RX-1s weigh? I helped move one around and it seemed way heavier than my viper but I thought they were only 50 lbs heavier. Ever since my buddy got an RX-1 (from a Viper) all he wants to do is ride straight smooth trails and you cant get him to ride a twisty wooded trail. He seems to ride alot slower now and seems to have to put alot more effort into his riding since he switched. They do look very cool but his gas mileage was only a little better than the vipers (17 vs 15).

the 03 was clutched poorly, had some serious sway up front, and the rear rode poor like all the newer proaction. oversrung and under-shocked. and a non-rebuildable too, so no revalving to smooth it out. the vector had a much better (LOWER and WIDER) front end that handled better. the apex also has the vecor front end and a stronger motor with efi. all around a better machine. I have ridden all three and the vector I like better than the earlier rx1, but the 05 rx was nice with the updates done to it and the new mono in the back with all updates. the apex is just a great combination of the best of both and then some
I have a 03 rx-1 and a mod viper I like both for differant reasons the rx is a great trail or lake sled not so good off trail or when the going get really rough and my rx is a good runner but no match for my viper best thing to do is buy the new yamaha comming out in the spring if you have the money it sounds like it we be the best of both worlds.. just kidding it all depends on your ridding style..
