i have a 02 viper er. i went riding the other day. i rode down to the gas station and filled up. i did around 60 miles, and the gas gauge is only down one bar. ive only had a chance to ride this sled a few times, but it seems like it should have used more gas? i used a string and checked, its down 8 inches from the top of the gas tank, is my gas gauge working right or not ??

mine does that 2

Next day i started it up and it went down a few more to where i thought it should be, not sure why

i just went out and started it up and its still up at almost full, maybe once i ride it around a little bit it will go down

Yep My SRX will go about 70 km (44miles) before it even comes down to the full mark after re-fueling. Then i can watch it drop... sound normal to me.

yup mine waits until it has about 1/2 tank before it drops a notch then it drops like a rock. every viper i have ever rode is like that

alright thanks guys. rode to the gas station today and filled up, and was only down 6 gallons so i guess it was about right?? how big is the tank on this sled ?

I think it's 10.2 gals or 39 ltr...I got 200 kms on my 03 viper (rider 275lbs) when the light came on and at the pumps it took 34 ltrs or 9 gals...hard pack with -20*C cruising railbeds, hills and few lake runs-small pulls, steep climbs 200/400 feet, at 60 / 75 mph 6-7300 rpms...hope this helps

O3 SX Viper has a 44.3L or 11.7US gallon tank. Mine does the same thing as most have described. I can go at least 50kms before it drops a single notch.
My brother filled up his 2000 Ski-Doo formula 500 to the top and I filled up the Viper. When we got to the pumps he had to put in quite a bit more gas than me. I drive much harder than he does, and I've got a big 700! What gives? Are the Doo's that bad on gas, or is Yami just that good!

The Viper is by far the best machine that ive had when it comes to gas.
Its also really good on oil. My last ride i did 125 miles before i filled her up and i still had 5 L left in the tank.
Guys in my group always check my fill ups because they cant beleive i take less than them.
Depends on the conditions but my friends attak will take $2 to $6 less than me.
Also a ski-doo faithfull in our group always goes on and on about his 2006 rev 600 ho sdi and we are at least 80% of the time putting in the same amounts of gas on refills.

I also think im getting more mpg this year because i got rid of the stock yoko track and went with the one inch predator with 144 studs. I have way less track spin and also keep your powervalves clean !
