I recently purchased an '87 Exciter with extensive modifications. I wasn't aware of how much was done to it until spending time on this forum. My biggest discovery is that the engine was built by Bender Racing. However, the company was sold last year, and they threw out all the specs and jigs and whatnot for everything pre-'97...what a shame.
I was told by the previous owner that I need to run 100octane in it. The head and jugs are stamped BR 023. I also got a special set of extra pistons, which are Yamaha parts that were modifed by Bender. Each box says 'Bender Cut' on it, handwritten. I'm told these were due to the port modifications made. I'm also told it has 44mm carbs, but I haven't taken anything apart to look. He didn't know much details either, as he bought it this way as well.
Can anyone shed any light on what I have? Any ideas on Horsepower?
The sled also has a set of PSI twin pipes on it.
The sled also has the Bender Cold Air kit, and the Bender widening kit for the struts.
It makes me wonder if the whole sled was built by them. The only thing the guy at Bender told me was to take real good care of it....which doesn't help me much!

Is it one of these? Bender SX and Bender Outlaw, Terminator and Avalanche specials during the 1980s
Try googling them

I tried searching for those...no luck!
I'm surprised they got rid of all that info...you'd think someone would buy it, or they'd at least have an archive!
I also know that the rear suspension was lowered at some point, there are holes to remount the rear of the skid about 3" higher than the stock bracket, drilled into the tunnel.
Maybe that lends further credence to it being a racing sled in the past.

sounds like a terminator. they had 44 roundslides, twin pipes, porting, wide front end & special terminator paint job. made around 105 hp.

The body panels were replaced, one side is gray, the other black. Anyone have a pic of the paint job a Terminator had?
I'd like to restore it and was planning on repainting it, maybe it'd be a nice touch to give it the proper paintjob, even if it wasn't a Terminator, maybe a tribute to one.

i love see these classic race built machines
My spare pistons don't look like the 'SX' piston on the dynotech sheet. On mine, one piston skirt is about .25" shorter than the other side. There is no 'U' shaped cut in it. The 'shorter' skirt does appear machined and not cast smooth like the other side. Maybe the extra pistons I have are actually just stock replacement, and the set in the motor are what came in those boxes. Or maybe they are just cut for trail porting.
I should pull the carbs and measure them, and check the intake to see what I have for pistons in it.
I was told the compression test showed 160lbs per cylinder.

I'll take some pics tonight..provided I don't get beat down for screwing around in the garage on Valentines Day!
The Exciter isn't much to look at now, pretty much stock appearing, but I'll take pics of all the interesting bits, especially the motor.
