Im looking to replace the cdi on my 99 srx 700 with a cdi that wont retard the timing at 8700 rpm any idea which cdi and from what machine I need?

thanks

Companies like cpr and hauck made race cdi's that dont retard the timing until much higher but i dont know if they were made for the 99's or not, someone else would have to chime in.

They do but most of them gain alot of timing.I know cpr's gains timing for a fat.I'm not shure how much haucks gains.I would call and talk to Pat directlt and tell him what your trying do with your nitous and don't want to gain timing or retear timing.A sx 700 box might work also.

yeah, I heard something about a sx cdi box working on a 99 srx. It's just that I ported my cases and cleaned up my cylinder intake ports, boost ports and polished my exaust and I want to try and spin the engine a little higher and see if it still makes power.

gates, i have the same need because of adding nitrous to my srx.
I think a viper box/harness will work. I am looking into it
the aftermarket boxes are about $500 US !!!!

There are 2 boxes that are available (that I know about).. They call one of them the "Y" box and the other is called the "Z" box.. They BOTH keep the timing from retarding up to 10,000 rpm's and you ABSOLUTELY NEED them if you have a MODERATELY sprayed motor. ONE of the biggest mistakes with a nitrous kit is there are guys putting the kits on their sleds and just leaving the STOCK box which ABSOLUTELY DESTROYS the whole NITROUS THEORY by retarding the timing (like the box supposed to do).. The Y and Z boxes will work.. I DONT remember the difference (curve wise) between the two, but I bought a "Y" box from HAUCK and I wound up having to buy a "Z" box from JOHN WHEELOCK at PROLINE PERFORMANCE... Call John and ask him about the "Z" box... Just tell him GARY OLES and the 99SRX setup for asphalt and he will know what we are talking about!!! FOR ME ande MY APPLICATION, the "Z" box worked FABULOUSLY and the "Y" box was a WASTE OF MONEY (Thanks again PAT HAUCK!!!) Hauck screwed me a time or two and I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND him or his company TO FIX A SWING IN A BIRDCAGE,,,let alone some high performance questions!!! Talk to JOHN WHEELOCK at PROLINE!!!! He's a GREAT GUY and isn't about screwing people!!! Gary Oles nosboy

The Y and z boxes were $500.00 NEW but I have seen them USED on amsnow for 175.00 ( a few years ago)
