I have a 2002 Viper Er with a Bender Roller Rooster secondary which is great at delivering bottom end power and awesome backshift. So I was thinking that I have more than enough bottom end that with a gear change I could gain some top end and still have lots of driveability left in the bottom end.So my questin is do I want to change a Factory 22t gear for a 23t gear or do I want to change my bottom gear from a factory 38t to a 37t. I was thinkig that if I dropped a tooth on the lower gear that I wouldn't need a different chain where if I had a bigger sprocket I would probably need a 70l chain. So is my geat ratio the same with 23t/38t as it is with a 22t/37t?

Don't take this the wrong way just because you gear a sled up you won't gain top speed. You have to have th hp to pull the gearing. Most of the yamahs's are geared high in stock form.If you gear up being stock you will probaly actaually go slower because you will be over geared.I would stay with stock.

yep i wouldnt change anything unless you get pipes, and even then 22-38 is probly fine, whats your revs at know.
IMO you would be better of getting light whieght gears. I thought that gearing was gona mak ea big dif instead im stock with 2 gears im not using.

yup as pro said if you gear up you aren't just going to gain top speed. You will lose bottom end and midrange because the clutches have less mechanical advantage on the driveshaft/track. You won't gain top end because the clutches are torque sensing and when you gear up like that the engine wont put out enough power to allow the clutching to fully shift out. It will start backshifting before it is fully shifted out.

I put a 36t on the bottom on mine, works great.Raced my wife's Viper with my son on it,mine will pull 2-3 sled lengths out of the hole every time, but won't pull any more top speed. Both sleds run 192 picks same tracks.
Used to run Bender helix, pulled the same, but I don't have to switch to stock for deep snow now.Pulls hard on groomed trails too.
Both sleds have stock clutching except for a shim in my primary.
Raced with stock gearing and clutch and it was neck and neck.
Mine has 6000mi hers about 2000mi.
I'm happy with the performance, but depends on your weight,it may not work for everyone.I'm about 180lbs.
