i ahve a 02 viper er and went ridin yesterday after a big storm, and had to break trail for quite a ways, snow was goin up over the hood, and i guess it was going in through the forced air induction thing next to the windshield, when i stopped i opened the hood, and the foam on the airbox was covered with snow, i scooped it off, and tryed to keep doing this once in a while. we got some more snow last night, and i will probly go out riding today. i was wondering if i should block off the force air inductin, if it will get enough air through the vents, or if i will be all set. i have seen those prefilter screens or whatever they are called but dont have one, i guess i will invest in one. besides that i was pretty impressed with how well the viper did in the powder, i expected to get stuck a lot more then i did with that junk stock track

The prefilter works great for that problem. Look on Ebay for them.
I have a prefilter and it works good. Be sure to check it every so often, I hve one and the snow melted on it and a pool of water stayed on top and chocked the sled from breathing. I stoped, it ran off and never had a problem after that.

well i dont have a precharger i think they are very very overpriced for a piece of cloth.what i do as i do with all my toys, quads, dirtbikes, truck, and sled is i oil the foam filter (i use k&n air filter oil or the brand no oil) most people that run aftermarket filters oil them and most do not ever think of oiling the snowmobile foam filter .ive been doing it on my srx since new and have never had a prob with water or snow going through the filter just blows right off. my air box is always dry inside .try it you'll like it

That'S NOT " forced air induction" --it's "FORCED SNOW INGESTION"

This isn't a problem with water getting inside the airbox though, it is a problem with snow collecting on top of the airbox and starving the engine of air and thus a huge performance and mileage loss. Oil the filter will not keep snow from collecting on top of the filter because the air force induction will just keep dumping snow on top of it and it is hard to get off. That is what the prefilter prevents, because it is very easy to get the snow off with the prefilter, it doesn't stick to the filter. Maybe oil would help keep the snow from sticking to the filter but i dont know. I think it would definately still get embedded in the openings in the filter and be hard to get out, starving the engine of air.

maybe so and what you say is true.all im saying is than i oil my filter and i also ride in powder as we all know the srx plows snow and the hood fills up and i have never had an issue with snow build up.not to deny your true fact that a precharger will dust off ,as well as keep out snow and water ,but the oil keeps the snow from sticking to the filter thus it blows right off and does not seem to collect .in saying that the srx does not have ram air ducts either. just my 2 cents worth
Had the same thing happened to me...now I'm running a prefilter and in deep stuff I put a pair of woolies (socks) in the induction inlet...never had a problem yet...

Yah, if you run in deep powder plug the air ducts. If you run in deep powder most of the time, I would consider closing them off permanently and installing a cold air kit beside the gauge. The newer Mtn Viper had the ducts closed off.theblues said:Had the same thing happened to me...now I'm running a prefilter and in deep stuff I put a pair of woolies (socks) in the induction inlet...never had a problem yet...
