Well this weekend I broke the chain which in turn broke the chaincase. So I need some recommendations on replacing it. Should I change the gears? I was also reading about the 15 - 13 chain, since I have to replace it anyways, is it worth changing to the 13?
the sled: 98 srx 700, stock except for clutching, but do not know what the clutching is set at (bought it already clutched)
thanks in advance

Just get a used chaincase from someone here on the site, people are parting sleds all the time, just scroll down to the classifieds and check it out. As for the chain, i would go with the newer srx/viper style hyvo chain and gears, they are more efficient than plain old silent chain. Should be able to find that stuff on the site easily as well. 23/38 will be good, 37 bottom will work as well.

how much difference would stock viper gearing 22/38 compare to the 23/38 or 23/37?
I have a couple options from fellow TYers and now I don't know what to pick. My options are 02 viper complete gears or 01 srx. a little more help please.

i am really thinking about getting the 01 srx gearing, what is the difference between this and a 98 srx chain/gearing?

The viper gearing (22/38 )will be better for general trail riding, its a little more peppy in short runs and woods riding, still will easily go over a 100mph, sometimes it makes the clutch's shift out firther and you gain mph, it all depends on your clutch set up, track, etc., this is the most common used ratio even in srx being trail ridden.
The srx gearing(23/38 ) is better for long lake running or wide open road riding where the taller gears will provide more topspeed.
Set up your sled for the riding you do 90% of the time, not the 10%.
stock 98 srx was 23/37, is 1.60 ratio, the newer 2000-02 srx were a tad steeper gearing at 23/38.
