Some you might be aware that my viper was stolen and then recovered. The insurance company has been screwing me around for the last two weeks. I should finnaly get some news on friday. My adjuster seems to be leaning towards scraping the machine and giving a decent setlement.
(PLEASE) Guys dont get mad at me but i could get a great deal on two machines and they are not yamaha's. I dont have the $$$ to buy a new apex even a used one but i could pick up a 2004 ZR 900 with 700 miles with all updates and in showroom condition. The other is a 2003 polaris prox 800 with all the go fast stuff and with at least $1500 in upgrades and goodies and again in showroom condition like i like it The tunnel is even brighter than my viper. This machine has about 1100 miles.
Both are going for about the same price and are not that far away from home.
If they dont repair the viper should i go for the 2004 ZR 900 OR THE 2003 PROX 800 ?
Thanks and please no bashing !

I'd look for another Viper between now and next season and pick one up. I would also see if I can buy back the scrapped one. Sometimes they will allow you to do that but will not offer insurance on it again. For a sled this season rent or borrow one.
If neither of those options work for you then pick up the ProX.

Too find a viper up here with low miles is nearly impossible. Ive been up a good part of the night and if she's not going to give me the price that i want im going to try and force them to fix it.
I hate to borrow a machine from my friends and as for renting their way out to lunch on rentals up here at $180 for 4 hours ! and nearly $350 for two days thats just crazy !
Their a new viper s 2004 at one dealer but they want way to much money. I might just start looking in the states, It might just be worth th effort.

get the pro x. it will handle as good as the viper and be a ton better in the bumps.
Buy this Viper, he is willing to help with delivery and you are getting the sled that you want in mint condition.

wow tough call. the ZR is a cool sled and nice... on paper. I think the vibration would be annoying. neighbor has one. he likes it but is always tinkering on it (says he is trying to make it as fast as an apex, no joke!) they look sexy but I would be nervous of the reliability. the pro-x seems like a great sled. polaris had the edge pretty sorted and they are a nice handling and riding sled that look dead sexy! but in the end, I would keep looking for a nice viper or an apex over the summer. I know my best friend was in a similar situation and got a new sled because there was snow on the ground and it was killing him. he likes the sled he bought, but wishes he had just relaxed and looked more. my $.02 and GOOD LUCK!!! let us know how you go and post pics!!

But prices have come down a hell of alot latetly and used sleds are not moving all that well at the moment.
I think the ZR 900 is sold.
This what the guy with the prox 800 had to say about his sled.
2003 polaris pro x 800 with 1123 rangely miles. SLP flow rights in dash-air horn kit in air bos-push pull tourque limiters-full coated single exhaust system-sugested clutching. Delta force 3 reeds. Titanium exhaust valves and slp springs. 192 stainless steel woodys studs. Power madd hand gaurds. Chrome cobra windsheild and bag. Since new amsoil synthetic oil in engine and chain case. Port for heated windsheild. Polaris dust cover and bag for it. Factory pro x cover in the box never used. High power headlamps. Red c and a pro skies with 8 inch blades. Also a brande new set of c and a razors red with blue tipes in the box never installed! Have all stock parts off the sled. Every aluminum part from full tunnel-radius rods-belt cover ect ect has been polished to a chrome finish. The sled as a whole is just awsome- runs awsome-and recognised every time out. I ! I do not have any pictures on hand but i assure you this sled is like new-never outside my heated garage!! and if so its got 39 coats of polish on it. Just cant get away these days.

Get them to total it, buy it back for salvage, part it out and then buy a new sled for next year. Prices should continue to drop as the season wanes. If you can get it back, fix it up good enough to finish the season then part it out.
All that said the Pro X is a nice sled. I will say that the add-ons and extras almost sound too good to be true. This guy must have had cash to burn, as it seems he spent all his time buying stuff for it and very little time actually riding it. Very strange indeed.

Their are many sleds in maine and ny,nh, ect with low miles for sale. I find that my friends accross the border dont seem to put on the miles that we do. Lots of 2002' to 2004's with only 800 miles to 2000 miles on them and most are very nicely equipped. Not That i would buy one but a buddy just bought a brand new 2006 left over fusion 600 for $5400 us. Also he picked up a 2004 xc 700 with 2500 miles for $3000 us. The 2004 ZR 900 that i wanted just sold for $3800 with 700 miles on her. I also missed a deal on ebay for a 2005 zr 900 with 1000 miles that sold fast at $4000.

the 900 will be a lot faster, if i remember that 800 wasn't much faster then ur viper and very underpowered for an 800. I would still go with it however, i would trust a polaris much more then a cat. Cats are seriously time bombs, been there done that, you can try it, but unless ur a die hard cat man, i doubt u will go back.... just my .02

I cant beleive i havent got a response yet from the insurance company by next tuesday its going to be 3 weeks since they recovered the machine and sitting at the dealer. I just got off the phone with the adjuster and told her the dealer will bill her for storage fee's if nothing is done by Monday .
I also told her that im fed up want a cash settlemet by Monday or else fix the machine.
I figure if something is done by Monday i could be riddng next weekend either on my viper or another machine.
At least i could get in 3 more good weekends ! Ive lost 4 sor far !
The prox sounds like a decent deal and would be good for my next few rides that i have left this season and hell i could always get my money back next season.

if you buy the pro x i doubt you would ever go back to a viper. i didnt think the viper suspension was that bad until i got my pro x. after seeing the difference it made me realize how bad the proaction really is! shortstop20 and i both have pro x's so if you need to know anything just ask.quebec#1 said:I cant beleive i havent got a response yet from the insurance company by next tuesday its going to be 3 weeks since they recovered the machine and sitting at the dealer. I still say not to rush into something just to ride a few weekends! you will buy something on a whim and not be happy with it for a long period of time. or at least a good chance that that is how it will go!
