Hey everyone.

I have an 02 SRX with the stock track (144 studs). I am finally ready to upgrade my track and I am set on the 9830 or 9818. My strong preference is the 1.25" 9818 but I insist on studding so I will need to go with 8-tooth drivers.

What is the down side to 8 tooth drivers? I know I have to regear to maintain the original gear ratio but will I have problems with the approach angle of the rail now or other issues?

Where can I buy them?

Thanks for you feedback.

Mark

the front of the rail will have more hyfax burn , you will never get ALL the top end back, your speedo will be off , also include the cost off a new chain with the gears , your going to want rear heat exchanger protetors (they may be stock on the srx) , i went to 8th drivers on my viper one year , hated it , then went back to 9th . if i were to do it , either 1 inch track with studs and 9 th drivers or 1 .75 or 1.50 with no studs and 9th drivers .. just my opion though .. other have had better luck with them ..

You can get the 8 tooths pretty easily. A few people should have them on here and I saw a few sets go for really cheap on e-bay last week... or your dealer can order them no problem. The down side to 8 tooth drivers is possible loss of top speed due to increased rolling resistance by bending the track at a tighter radius, it takes energy to bend the track... if top speed isn't your concern (which it likely isn't if you're going with a 1.25" track) then there isn't really any other downside to running them. Some people have had ratcheting problems when they hook up really well and are on the gas, you COULD go to extroverts and this would cure the problem... but I think as long as the (8 tooth) drivers don't have much wear on them at the time of install you should be good to go.

I'm sure the guys that have actually done the swap to 8 tooths and a 1.25" track with studs and re-geared will have a few more things to say.

Guess i Type slow B2SO got the first reply lol

lol, but you brought something else i had forgot about , track RATCHETTING sucked , you have to run your track way tight , that alone kills top end and hyfax life , like change up said if you do go 8th , go non slip (Hartman sells them ) ..

I have a 1 1/4 predator "studded" on a 00 SXr w/ the stock 9 tooth drivers with no contact troubles for the last 2 seasons ,I swapped this track from may 98 vmax xtc When i removed it there wasn't a mark in the tunnel.. follow the 1" deflection info in your owners manual and there shouldn't be a problem. but if your worried about top speed performance that track will wack about 10 mph off ..
I also run a 1.25 X 136 ice ripper tracked viper, 8 Tooth wahl antiratchet drivers,P-85 primary, team secondary and LOVE IT! I made a pass out back and hit 92.8 mph "GPS verified not the speedo" and still had throttle-100mph w/ 1.25 x 136 is awesome I'll test out top speed next week when I head to the lakes in huntsville ont ..contact Tom Hartman he's got the set up! I love mine !!!

Thanks for the feedback so far. I just find it frustrating when Im riding with all my ski-doo Rev 800 buddies and Attaks with studded 1.25 tracks and there smoking me on the loose snow on the lake last weekend.

I would also consider the 1.25 iceclaw track if I can use it with the stock 9-tooth drivers and not have interference issues. Im only looking for sufficient studs for control in the icy corners and icy patches on the lakes.

If I was you I would go to the ice claw, this will eliminate all the issues of studs and all the regearing and speedo issues. Futhermore an Ice claw only weighs a little more then a 1.25 track so you will not be weighted down by all the studs, giving you better top speed along with some traction in the icy corners!!!!!! Just my 2 cents!!!!

ice claw

Anyone else have 1st hand experience with a 1.25 ice claw track in a SRX with all protectors and the stock 9-tooth drivers?

This solution gets me the loose snow performance and control on the icy corners / lakes.

I'd go with the Iceclaw. I'm in the Identical situation right now and it's a nightmare!

everything is not 100% so, it's not the best setup.

the ice claw is still a 1.25" track with studs. the only difference is the studs offer crap for traction. the problem isnt the studs hitting anything, its the track itself hitting the protectors and the ice claw still needs protectors, so there is no benefit to run it. just get the 8 tooth drivers and gear it up if you do a lot of lake runs. if you dont play on the lake all the time, then leave the stock gearing in. its more fun on the trail with the deeper final gearing.

Just some more input, I went w/1.25 predator and 192 1.325 woodys SS60's and installed 8tooth drivers. Also geared 35/25 and w/ 1.13 correction factor gear ratio is 1.58. No problems anywhere. 107 on the gun. I could probably make some more changes for more top speed but I'm happy w/this ;)!

i used a ice ripper track last year, they suck. it is the last time i buy another newly released track.
run a 9837, 9830, then clip the track to match your guards, stud it with 1.175 studs
