Last weekend my buddies 98srx 700 died (motor stopped, he said the headlight never shut off) on the trail then came back to life before the sled coasted to a stop. All stock, only a Bender Can, I think it has over 5K on it for mileage.
We're going to start looking for an electrical problem. Any idea's where to start or pics of known harness wear areas.

check wiring under engine but it seem like you have a stator problem ......
Might be TORS cable is too tight or he pressed the throttle wrong. Usually if the motor dies due to a stator problem the lights go out or dim first.
Beyond that there are many possibilities. I would start testing all of the electric components with an Ohmmeter.
