2002 viper with an older belt used at least one season... OEM belt looks fine and seems to sit properly in the secondary...it recently started to squeal at idle. any suggestions on why it has started squealing. All the motor mounts are good and i have a torque limiter.

I have an idea!
What are you guys using to clean your clutches? Mine always squeals at idle after it is cleaned with brake cleaner. This goes away after a few hundred miles though. I'm thinking maybe your clucthes aren't releasing the belt properly which is causing it to squeal?

Last weekend I had just changed the belt (cleaned it with hot soap and water and a cloth) and it squealed like crazy at idle and I could also hear it while riding. I put a little over 100km on the belt that day and changed it for the spare (new belt, not cleaned) and had no squealing. I did read later someone had suggested using a scotchbrite pad to clean the belt which makes sense.

I had the same problem on my 03 Viper on one of the TY rides a couple years ago. At night after the ride Mr. Sled said bring your sled in the garage because I can't stand hearing your bet squeal anymore, so we did. He used his clutch aligment tool and that fixed the problem. On my sled (which I but wrecked) we had to loosen the motor mount to get the clutched lineg up right, after that the belt has not made a noise since.

YOU need to align it towards the mag side about an1/8 of an inch.Your top end lost some mph's get ur done with an alignment tool. I was gong to post a thread because we are trying to set this sled up like a srx and was wondering if we need a srx belt??? You can make a straight edge with a 15mm off set from back of secondary to back of primary you will loose 6mph's if it wasn't done. My ?? Should I throw an srx belt on a viper or is it the same length with a different part ##??? I'm sorry it is 9/16 of an inch towards mag it was bothering me on conversion so I got calculator out an converted it hope it helps an will make a difference on your clutch. What about belt, should I use srx or are they the same????

srx and viper run the same belt and all the same center to center and offset specs.
