snow plugging exhaust!
Do you have tripple pipes. Could be snow plugging up the exhaust, only really a problem with the sled is piped though.

Do you have aftermarket clutching? A steep helix will make it look like a carberuetion problem in deep snow. Try tightening the secondary clutch 20 degrees.

yes it is too aggressive clutching for running in powder with the high load situation, and it bogs the engine. Exhaust could also be plugging with snow, might need and exhaust deflector to keep snow from plugging the outlet.

You need to take the secondary off the sled and remove the three 12mm nuts and be careful holding down on the helix while you push down on the lower sheave (the moveable sheave). MAKE SURE YOU TAKE NOTE OF WHAT HOLES THE SEC. SPRING IS IN ON THE HELIX AND SHEAVE WHEN YOU TAKE IT APART, and write them down. Numbers add and multiply by 10 to tell you your twist. 6 and 1 is 70 degrees, 3 and 3 is 60, etc. Go up 20 degrees from whatever you have and give it a try. Also check the condition of the black buttons that the helix rides on and the bushings in the helix and sliding sheave.

I have what I think is the same problem with my 2000. When riding in very deep snow, the sled starts to sputter and will hardly sping to 6500 RPM. Even after I get out of the snow and ride the sled down the road for a few miles it barely clears up. In my case it is definetly not clutching. If it were, it would run like a champ again as soon as it got out of the powder. If i ride it long enough (2 mins) in the powder, it'll start to smoke like cheech and chong and foul a plug or two. I think the problem is air starvation as it only does this once the vents get plugged up.
Just a thought. For all I know the problem you are having could be completely different than mine and it could very well be clutching in your situation.
