went out for a ride today on the 94 vmax 600 and low and beholed the secondary shaft spun in the housing where the 2 meet at the chain case.actually a couple of inches before.i went to the dealer and they are like gold.so seeing as how i hate to spend lots of money on the old girl why can i not weld the 2 shafts together so it never spinns again?apparently the dealer said thats what guys have been doing because of the cost of a new one is stupid.i really cant think of any negatives other than the 2 shafts will be more or less permenent and if you had to change a gear or so youd have to proably cut and reweld again or then replace with new or used parts.any thoughts on this guys?

Set it up on a lathe with a dial indicater and weld her up when true. You got nothing to lose only money to gain.Id do it.

Cougar, My 95 is a one piece shaft. I think 95 and above are all one piece. If you get it straight, I would think welding it would work fine. Maybe someone here can hook you up with a used one. I wouldn't think they would be to much at a boneyard. I'm surprised that happened! Did the chain or a bearing lockup? Maybe that 600 is cranking out 250 HP!!!!!!!!

CANT SEE ANYTHING ELSE WRONG BUT I WILL BE DOUBLECHECKING BECAUSE ONCE SHES WELDED ITS DONE TILL I CAN GET NEW STUFF OR USED.it was running great till i hit a hill then no noise or f all just no go so im thinking the shaft just let go,apparently its no totaly uncommon.funny you mentioned 250 hp cause it felt real strong just before she calfed, lol.actually the 2 shafts are still together its just a matter of welding so the 1 doesnt slip inside the other.

yup same shaft as mine.see where the shaft would go in on the left from the chaincase is where mine spun.as of this morning it will spin no more ,we welded the thing solid.should look at getting that shaft for an extra.still its odd that you cant get the short splined piece sepetate as it obvisally is added on ? still it wont break again now but if i have to do some work it may take a little extra effort.took less than an hour to teardown and weld it .it may break but i will guarentee it wont be at the weld.
