Are you sure its a 700? I always thought that only the 600s came with Ohlins. If its a 700 and it has Ohlins, those were added on by the previous owner.
They are good sleds. The only real area of concern is the front w-arm on the rear suspension. They are known for developing cracks over time. You can easily fix that with a welder though. You can either buy a heavy-duty w-arm or just weld some gussets onto the stock arm and its good to go.
Thats definetely not a reason to pass on the sled though...

Great sleds, put over 9,000 miles on one, piped its whole life. Totally miss the way that sled handled, it was on rails, and so close to the ground so it didn't lift inside ski hardly at all. Great mileage with the aaen pipes, and had good power. Lots of simple, easy mods that really wake them up such as a thin headgasket, and reed spacers or the reed stopper notch.

The better engine I never saw on sled, and they are on rails like said Yamaholic22. Really fun and easy to drive. Mine have 9500km and run like a brand new. I'm never anxious to take long ride with it and has absolutely no fear of others new sled on trails. It will eat them. Hope you will enjoy your new ride.

well it was different for canada and the US because the canadian SRX's came with ohlins and the US ones didnt....im thinking the 700sx came with ohlins in canada and they didnt for US
I had a 1998 SX 700. If you placed you order early in March they would put on the ohlins at the factory for 200.00 more. This was a no brainer. Great sled, it corners like it was on rails.

I think it is one of the best handling sleds ever. Add some better skis in front and 120-144 picks and enjoy. Look into getting the wider handlebars from a 00 or newer sxr. The only problems I could think of is the rear suspension as stated in another post. You might have to spend some time and money refreshing it. I miss mine.

i bought my 98 sx 4 months ago with 3000 mi on it. it is with out a doubt the best sled i have ever owned. i set the suspension up for my weight and its been perfect ever sence. man i wouldnt trade it for anything, exept maybe a new four stroke.

You know its funny but i actually liked the narrower bars on my older sx because it made it easier to get really low when leaning out for a corner, the wider bars made it harder to reach the far end of the bar when hanging it all out, and my arms are LONG. I really lean hard when i'm hauling a$$ on wide open twisties that i can see through.

Im going to look at the machine on Saturday the guy told me it has never had any mods.....stock its whole life. everything has been maintain yearly. he added brand new srx style skis last season and reverse kit.
i think im going to buy it...looks mint to me.
im going to drive it how it is for the rest of the season then ill pull it apart and go over the rear skid. maybe some viper shocks and get the ohlins rebuilt.
triple pipes, clutching, reeds
sled only has 3100 miles on it!
