i had a meltdown and the pto cyl dome of the head has a few mild chips from the ring popping off the piston.

Should it try to clean these up a bit, will these imperfections cause detonation?

thanks guys

Is it a dcs head, if not I have a head and gasket. $75 plus shipping, and it is perfect. Maxdlx

You can clean up the head if it has some chips especially if you don't want to spend the extra. I had a SX that lost a ring on the exhaust port. I talked to a few mechanics that had done sleds over the years and they said make sure to spend some time on the dome. I wet sanded the dome using wet 600 grit sand paper and some time. It cleaned up pretty well. Be careful you can take too much off which will change the volume of the dome.

Unfortunately, me being new to a rebuild didn't check the rod length. My SX did last long - I had a slightly stretched rod which cause another failure of a ring on the same side exhaust port. In trying to findout what happened a second time I found the rod was stretched, but not bent. I ended up getting a great deal on a SRX.
